14 Year Old Charged with Possession of Loaded Gun in Naperville NAPERVILLE–A concerning incident has shaken the community of Naperville as a 14-year-old juvenile was recently charged with unlawful possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun. The joint announcement came from DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres, highlighting the severity of the situation and the diligence of law enforcement. The juvenile, a Naperville resident, was charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, classified as a Class 4 Felony. During a detention hearing in front of Judge Chantelle Porter, the juvenile was ordered to be released on home detention with electronic monitoring. NAPERVILLE | 14 Year Old Charged with Possession of Loaded Semi-Automatic Handgun in Naperville Incident Details The incident occurred on the evening of June 14, 2025, in the well-traveled area of Washington Street and Jefferson Avenue during a “teen takeover” event. Naperville police officers, conducting additional patrols, observed the juvenile acting suspiciously. Upon performing a safety pat-down, an officer recovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun from the juvenile’s waistband, leading to his arrest. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed deep concern, stating, “The allegation that a fourteen-year-old boy was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun during an extremely crowded downtown event is extremely disturbing. This vigilant policing likely prevented a potential tragedy.” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres echoed these sentiments, commending his officers’ professionalism and reinforcing their commitment to community safety. “Residents and visitors can expect to see continued police presence at events and gatherings to ensure safety is our top priority,” he said.
