The Legacy of Wilson Phillips
When it comes to “music business royalty,” few groups fit the bill better than Wilson Phillips. Born into a musical lineage, Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Chynna Phillips were immersed in vocal harmonies from day one. Carnie and Wendy are the daughters of Beach Boy legend Brian Wilson. Chynna is the daughter of Michelle and John Phillips, famous for their work with the Mamas and the Papas.
The three ladies have been friends since birth. Carnie and Chynna knew each other even before Wendy arrived. Their deep friendship blossomed into a shared passion for music. In 1989, they were signed to SBK Records and released their debut album in 1990.
Breakout Success
Their debut album was a sensation, featuring three number one singles: "HOLD ON," "RELEASE ME," and "IMPULSIVE." It sold over five million copies in the U.S. alone and garnered four Grammy nominations. In 1992, they launched their follow-up album, which included their fourth number one single, "YOU’RE IN LOVE." Over their impressive careers, Wilson Phillips has sold more than ten million albums worldwide, earning a place as one of the best-selling female groups in music history.
Life Beyond Music
After enjoying significant success, the group decided to take a break from touring and recording. During this time, all three members married (and they still are with their first husbands) and collectively raised nine children, embracing their roles as hands-on mothers.

A Return to Recording
In 2004, Wilson Phillips returned to the studio, releasing three albums through Sony. These included California, a collection of California classics, Christmas in Harmony, a delightful holiday album, and Dedicated, a tribute album featuring the hits of their parents. All three albums achieved success on the Billboard charts, continuing to receive airplay today.
Memorable Appearances
One of the most unexpected highlights of their career came in 2011 when they appeared in the hit comedy Bridesmaids, performing "HOLD ON." Initially, they believed they were simply part of a wedding scene. However, director Judd Apatow never informed them that they were in the movie's final scene, which became a pivotal punchline. This surprise performance solidified their status as one of the most beloved harmony groups in music.
Recent Projects
Despite their busy schedules, the trio continues to create music together. In November 2022, they released a modern, harmony-rich version of Harry Styles’ song "BOYFRIENDS." Their passion for music remains as vibrant as ever.
