- CARING + SHARING | Naperville Mom In Need
THIS MOTHER'S DAY GIVE A GIFT OF KINDNESS & SUPPORT NAPERVILLE–We read about Kindness Projects everywhere. We are marching in streets and walking out in parking lots, but perhaps look next door. Naperville resident Susan Hoffman has been fighting for her life after being diagnosed with Leukemia this past October. Working as an Adult Services Librarian at the Naperville Public Library for years, she supported her family, including maintaining health benefits, until she began to feel very tired and had low blood counts. Initially classified as an auto-immune disease, a bone marrow biopsy later found acute myeloid leukemia/AML. The diagnosis made it impossible for her to work during treatment, which subsequently ended her employment after FMLA ran out. While caring for his family, Susan’s husband Wayne has been also out of work from the financial services industry as a seasoned Sales Professional, which has taken a toll on their finances. Amazing friends have stepped in to support the Hoffman’s three children that participate in Cub Scouts, attend Patterson Elementary School, and play in the Naperville Park District Soccer League, but after extensive treatment including a bone marrow transplant, medical bills are becoming overwhelming without health care and employment. Help thy neighbor, walk up, and be kind - donate today.at www.youcaring.com/susanhoffman-1129020 . #GlancerMagazine #CaringSharing #NapervillePublicLibrary #MomInNeed #Naperville #SusanHoffman #DuPageCounty #LocalWomen

- SUGAR GROVE CORN BOIL | Popular Summer Festival Dates Back to 1967
WHERE FRIENDS AND FAMILY COME TOGETHER TO HAVE FUN The history of the Sugar Grove Corn Boil takes us back to 1967. It started as a small community gathering put on by the Young Adult Club, for the purpose of raising funds for the local community. In years to come, the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Village helped grow the event. 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of the Sugar Grove Corn Boil. Over the years many things have changed, yet at its core, the festival remains the same. “Where friends and family come together to have fun!” is the slogan of the Sugar Grove Corn Boil, NFP. From the community gathering with a population in the hundreds to what today is a four-day festival with an average attendance of 35,000, the event continues to evolve. What makes the event even more unique is that it is still FREE to attend! Enjoy FREE Admission, Free Parking, Live Music, Carnival, Food and Crafters, and Fireworks on Saturday. For the fifty-first Sugar Grove Corn Boil Festival the event will be honoring our first responders. The committee is looking to raise awareness, support, celebrate, honor, and simply say thank you. Every day first responders put their lives on the line to ensure our safety. They are everyday heroes that don’t ask for special attention. They are fellow members of our communities; our neighbors, our friends, and members of our family. Join the community of Sugar Grove at Volunteer Park July 26-29. Sponsorships available. SAY GOODBYE TO ACHES AND STRESS, HELLO TO MASSAGE THERAPY IN ST. CHARLES Ever have one of those days when it feels like you’ve hit the gym in the literal sense? Or that the tension from life’s everyday challenges seems to have taken up permanent lodging in your neck and shoulders? A massage therapy session could be just the thing to help make soreness and stress a thing of the past. “A visit to the Norris Recreation Center for massage therapy can help someone with their physical and emotional well-being,” said Ande Masoncup, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation. “Why not take the time for yourself to receive some of these amazing benefits?” Massage therapy sessions at Norris Recreation Center can be the perfect antidote to a strenuous workout or a well-earned reward for surviving the work week. The benefits of massage therapy abound, everything from increased circulation to decreased stress, deeper sleep and lighter moods. According to the Mayo Clinic, massage is found to help alleviate conditions such as anxiety, headaches and insomnia in addition to providing relief from soft tissue, muscle and sports injuries. At Norris Recreation Center, three types of massage therapies are available: Swedish massage, helpful for overall relaxation, oxygenating blood flow, decreasing muscle toxins and improving circulation and flexibility; Sports massage, targets the type of sport and concentrates on overused muscles; and Deep Tissue massage, good for chronic aches and pains and to break down so-called “knots” of contracted muscle tissue. The NRC’s massage therapist, Vicki, can help you decide which type of massage is most beneficial for your specific needs. Sessions can be booked for 60- or 90-minutes and the cost is $58 and $84, respectively, for residents. - COMMUNITY GROWTH | Progress Underway In Sugar Grove
SO MUCH IS HAPPENING IS BEAUTIFUL SUGAR GROVE Located west of Orchard Road on the other side of Naperville and Aurora straight down I-88, is beautiful Sugar Grove located in Kane County. The community has experienced steady growth since 2000 and continues to attract young, ambitious families who are living the American dream. Sugar Grove is the perfect community for those who love the small town feel, yet want to be close to popular shopping, dining and area attractions. Business is booming in the community, as builders, developers and smart marketers put new plans in motion. Recent years included the addition of Ace Hardware, Dunkin Donuts, Culvers, Starbuck's and more. According to the Village of Sugar Grove in a recent news release, plans for new Sugar Grove development are ramping up. "Village Community Development staff are once again spending considerable time and effort on long term land use planning, working with developers who control sites within Sugar Grove’s village limits and planning area," said Bill Whitmer of the Sugar Grove Economical Development Corporation. "Discussions about needed infrastructure, subdivision and site plan approvals and transportation / access requirements are being held with manufacturers, commercial and industrial developers for a new project. National Shopping Plazas, Inc. is developing concepts for a 40-acre commercial subdivision, which currently include hotels, retail and restaurant sites. Crown Community Development is planning for a development of mixed uses, north along Illinois Route 47. Industrial companies looking to expand have visited the Sugar Grove Community Development office and are considering available sites for development here. All of this activity is being spurred by the dwindling supply of development sites in communities farther east along the I-88 corridor; the expedition of the I-88/IL Route 47 full interchange project (completion expected in fall of 2019); and, Sugar Grove’s residential development community getting back on track. Not all the activity being done today is for long term planning however," Whitmer noted. ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS CURRENTLY HAPPENING IN SUGAR GROVE A commercial contractor – MD Contracting Services, formerly of Oswego, recently purchased the 12,000 sq. ft. industrial building at 11 Duffy Lane in Sugar Grove’s Marquette Industrial Park. Naperville Construction Fence Rental just leased 7,500 sq. ft. at 1016 Airpark Drive in Sugar Grove’s Aero Industrial Park. The company rents construction fence for residential and commercial construction sites. Company owner Chris Hoekstra, also a Sugar Grove resident, says they outgrew their warehouse in Big Rock and really liked Sugar Grove. The company covers the Tri-State area with their service. Neil Johnson, SVN Commercial Real Estate, was the Broker on the lease. Klas Piercing & Tattoo is planning the opening of their Sugar Grove operation in May. - HANNAH MORROW | Courage to Speak Her Silence
LOCAL AREA VICTIM IN THE LARRY NASSAR SEX ABUSE SCANDAL TALKS ABOUT HOPE & HELPING OTHERS Now 18 years old and a senior at Neuqua Valley High School, Hannah was the victim of sexual abuse since age 11 at the hands of U.S. Olympic Gymnastics doctor, Larry Nassar. “He used his power and my innocence in order to manipulate me,” she says. “I have been a level ten gymnast since the seventh grade, and with being a high level athlete comes injuries; my coaches thought they were sending me to the best doctor.” Since the story has hit headlines, Hannah has made it her mission to do everything she can to speak up and prevent sexual abuse. “The more brave people that stand up against it, the less our culture will tolerate it, and the less people like Nassar will get away with inexcusable acts,” she says. “If you are a victim, don't feel like you have to stay quiet and be ashamed; you are strong and courageous, and you have a voice. I truly believe in making the best out of the worst situations, and I believe you can take your pain to help others. Don't let what happened to you define you, let it strengthen you.” Speaking up is part of Hannah’s healing process, along with hosting fundraising events to create awareness for Speak Your Silence ( https://speakyoursilence.org/ ), who provides nationwide counseling for sexual assault victims and gives them a place to speak up and stand up for themselves. Hannah designed a custom t-shirt, currently available at Anderson’s Bookshop and Oswald’s Pharmacy in Naperville, as well as Twist Yoga Lounge in Plainfield, and is contributing 100% of funds to Speak Your Silence. She hopes to implement changes to the health curriculum at schools to include in-depth discussions about how to prevent sexual assault and what to do if you ever find yourself a victim of it. –Kristen Kucharski Photos by Mike Mantucca for Glancer Magazine This Article Will Appear Inside the Early May 2018 Issue of Glancer Magazine #GlancerMagazine #HannahMorrow #LarryNassarSexAbuseScandal #NeuquaValleryHighSchool #Naperville #KristenKucharski #Lifestyle #KidsTeens #NapervilleNews #LocalNews #CaringSharing #May12018DuPage #TrendingNow #LocalWomen
