MAPLE PARK | Kaneland School District #302 Hires New Superintendent

Kaneland School District #302 Hires New Superintendent

DISTRICT SHARE NEWS OF ITS NEW SUPERINTENDENT DR. KURT E. ROHLWING

MAPLE PARK, IL–On February 26, 2024, the Kaneland Community Unit School District #302 Board of Education announced the appointment of the next superintendent Dr. Kurt E. Rohlwing. The district shared Tuesday that this news comes after conducting a thorough search. The decision was made after gathering feedback from the community, rigorous interviews and surveys and focus groups to identify the qualities most sought after in a superintendent for the district. Dr. Todd Leden, the current superintendent, has planned to retire on June 30, 2025.

“We were very impressed with all the candidates, which made the decision challenging. The Kaneland Board of Education decided to hire Dr. Kurt Rohlwing for several reasons. His commitment to excellence, energy, and drive impressed the board. Additionally, his extensive educational background, including an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and over 23 years of experience in education, made him stand out as someone with a well-balanced background for this role. Experience in multiple levels of school administration, including Director of Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent, and AVID District Director, showed that he deeply understands the education system and could lead the district effectively. Overall, the board of education sees the new superintendent as a highly qualified candidate with the experience, education, and leadership skills needed to lead the school district into the future successfully,” said Kaneland Board President Addam Gonzales.

Dr. Rohlwing displayed strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with other qualities that made him stand out. Dr. Rohlwing has an extensive educational background with experience in multiple levels of school administration, including Ed.D Educational Leadership from Aurora University, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Round Lake School District #116, Director of Secondary Education Round Lake, Director of Social Studies and World Languages and AVID District Director Algonquin CUSD #300, and Hampshire Middle School Principal.

The next superintendent expressed their honor for the opportunity to serve the district and their excitement to work with everyone in the community on tackling the challenges ahead.

“I am thrilled and honored to be named as the next Superintendent to serve the Kaneland community. I look forward to continuing the work currently being done by Dr. Leden and the Kaneland staff and building on that work to provide the Kaneland community with the best possible school experience. I was drawn to this opportunity due to the strength of the community and my family, and I look forward to becoming a part of the Kaneland community over the next couple of years,” said Dr. Kurt Rohlwing.

According to the release, the next superintendent will officially take on the role on July 1, 2025. During the 2024-2025 school year, he will meet with all district stakeholders to build relationships, take tours of the schools, review curricula, and analyze the community's goals.

The Kaneland School District Board of Education is confident that the next superintendent will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, and they look forward to working together to provide the best possible education for all students in the district.
