HINSDALE | 14 Year Old Dies from Injuries: Community Heartbroken after Tragic Accident

MONDAY'S ACCIDENT HAS SHAKEN THE COMMUNITY OF HINSDALE

HINSDALE–Earlier this week on Monday the Hinsdale Police and Fire Department responded to Fontanos, 9 S Lincoln for a report of a car that had driven into a building. There were several victims at the scene. A 14-year-old pedestrian was struck outside the business and critically injured. He was transported to Hinsdale Hospital and then later flown to Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. We learned today that he has passed away.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Friday morning that Sean Patrick Richards died from his injuries from the crash. Additional people inside the restaurant were struck by the vehicle or debris from the accident. They were transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition. One customer from inside the restaurant was treated and released from the scene.

The 14-year-old ended up on the hood of the Jeep before falling under the vehicle, the sub shop's owner said. He was was flown to Comer Children's Hospital after suffering critical injuries. The owner of Fontano's Subs said surveillance video shows a Jeep coming out of Fuller's Carwash across the street and crashing straight into the restaurant. Four others were injured in the crash at Fontano's sub shop. The Major Crash Reconstruction Team from the DuPage County Merit Task Force is assisting Hinsdale police with the investigation.

Such a terrible tragedy. Our hearts are with Sean's family during this sad time.
