LOCAL ENTREPRENUER HEALED HERSELF THROUGH STRENGTH BUILDING & YOGA
YORKVILLE–Looking for something a little different to improve your health? Then Jessica Mitchell, owner of Living Divina Yoga and Fitness Studio in Yorkville, is your gal. As a former chef, Jessica carried a lot of pain in her neck and shoulders. When doctors told her she needed surgery, she looked for alternative options. Through strength building and a dedicated yoga practice, Jessica’s body healed, and she was inspired to share her recovery techniques with anyone who would listen. “People are sick of being sick,” says Jessica. “You can harness the power to overcome pain and maintain strength and flexibility.”
Jessica opened her studio two years ago with a focus on Holy Yoga, a faith-based practice that embraces meditation on scripture, praying in practice and tuning into what God is revealing to us. However, the studio offers so many more fun options as well, including a variety of yoga classes, barre fitness, aerial fitness and coming soon – yoga trapeze. A wildly popular event in her studio is Goat Yoga. Yes, goat yoga, where partnered with Blue Sky Goat Yoga Farm, clients get bendy while having a moment with a goat.
In addition to the studio, Jessica volunteers with the Salt and Light Coalition in Chicago that serves women who have committed to their healing journey from being sexually trafficked. “Yoga provides that mind-body connection to work through a release of the stress and trauma we hold in,” says Jessica. “My mission is to hold a safe space for anyone to sort through what this means to them individually.” –Mindy Kyle, Photos by Mike Mantucca
