DWELLSOCIAL Allen Shulman was a custom home builder on Chicago's Northshore for 15 years before founding BrightNest in 2010, a website that helped people take better care of their homes. BrightNes t was acquired by Angie's List in 2013 where Allen worked until 2017 when he co-founded DwellSocial , a platform that brings amazing food from Chicago's best restaurants to almost anywhere in the Chicagoland area. Starting this month, DwellSocial will be delivering food to the Naperville area five-days a week, Wednesday-Sunday. Allen has been married for 32 years and has three children. A foodie, Allen and his co-founders pivoted DwellSocial at the beginning of the pandemic-- from a home services business that matched customers with contractors, to a platform that brings the best restaurants in Chicago to the suburbs. Allen’s deep seated belief in the power of sharing great food together is why this quote from Guy Fieri really hits home: Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter what culture, everywhere around the world, people eat together. “I believe DwellSocial provides people with a unique opportunity to have an amazing restaurant experience right at home,” Allen says. “It’s an awesome privilege and responsibility that we take very seriously.” Unlike on-demand delivery that is often warm and soggy, DwellSocial restaurant partners prepare all their food to be finish-cooked at home, guaranteeing that the food will taste exactly as intended. DwellSocial works with amazing restaurants, from old favorites like Pequod’s Pizza, Do-Rite Donuts and Sweet Mandy B’s, to MICHELIN awardees avec and HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen, to new restaurants such as Five Squared Pizza, Bangaroos Aussie Pies, and many more. “This wouldn’t have been fathomable three years ago,” he says. “Being on the forefront of this change has been a once-in-a lifetime experience.” -Kristen Kucharski, Photos by Mike Catuara DwellSocial www.dwellsocial.com together we deliver BUSINESS DINING + CABARET NAPERVILLE DUPAGE

PROOFPILOT ANNOUNCES OVER $12 MIILION IN SERIES B FUNDING WHEATON– ProofPilot , a leading Software as a Service (SaaS) clinical trial research platform, today announced the closing of more than $12M in Series B financing, led by Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc., with Sopris Capital, LLC, First Trust Capital Partners, LLC, and Excelra, among others, participating in this round. ProofPilot is revolutionizing the complex and arduous clinical trial market by offering a fully digitized platform with self-design study, trial process management, and remote source verification capabilities.
" ProofPilot is bringing next-generation healthcare to all audiences," said Matthew Amsden, CEO, and co-founder of ProofPilot. "Through our cost-effective and digitally-enabled platform, pharmaceutical and medical device companies can expand the efficacies of their existing products and explore the potential of digital health solutions. For the first time, health & wellness companies can now access clinical trials to substantiate their products and services at a manageable cost. Moreover, participants can seamlessly engage in clinical trial support." ProofPilot is transforming the traditional clinical trial model so more companies can afford to run trials on a wider array of regulated and non-regulated products and services – all without the typically required internal infrastructure. This democratization not only allows small companies to design and execute trials with rigor, but also to massively scale the research capacity of life science companies as well.
As part of this raise, famed technology strategist and healthcare investor Esther Dyson, executive founder of Wellville, joins ProofPilot's Board of Directors. "As a society, we don't know very much about what improves our human health, or even what a 'healthy' person looks like, but with reduced barriers to entry, ProofPilot allows organizations of any size to design unique trials that impact previously underrepresented populations," she says. "The ProofPilot value proposition is a true win-win-win—for companies, researchers, and people alike."
Jeff Kozloff, seasoned healthcare entrepreneur and another new member of ProofPilot's Board of Directors, echoes the value that ProofPilot brings in its transparency. "Trust is at the foundation of all consumer decision-making," says Kozloff. "ProofPilot's innovative platform enables companies to effortlessly conduct evidence-based research to advance science, validate product claims and earn consumer trust."
"Strategically, ProofPilot was a natural fit for Mitsui. This Company makes clinical trials affordable and easy-to-use, allowing many companies to test their next-generation healthcare solutions, and reach a diverse group of participants. With a focus on innovative opportunities in the healthcare and wellness market, we saw how ProofPilot can play an important role in bringing evidence-based changes to the market," said Jin-Ah Lim, General Manager at Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc.

ProofPilot Announces Over $12 Million in Series B Funding, Wheaton Private Equity Firm Among Investors

CHICAGO-BASED FIRM DEDICATED TO INVESTING IN SILICON VALLEY OUTSIDERS The second largest single-partner U.S. fund ever raised between the coasts, the Chicago-based firm, founded by Nick Moran of Naperville, will continue investing in mission-driven founders who are building companies outside traditional tech hubs. CHICAGO—New Stack Ventures, an early-stage venture fund dedicated to investing in Silicon Valley outsiders, recently announced it has raised $42.6 million for its second fund. This fund is the second largest single-partner (solo capitalist) funds ever raised between the coasts–outside of San Francisco/Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and New York City–and follows a $6M raise for the first fund in 2018. New Stack Ventures makes angel, pre-seed, and seed stage investments into B2B SaaS startups transforming large legacy industries like finance, healthcare, cyber security, supply chain, construction, and real estate. The firm has a current portfolio of 38 companies including Hologram, Cybrary, Fairmarkit, and Covie. New Stack also intentionally seeks deals outside of Los Angeles, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The Chicago-based fund is naturally drawn to the Midwest as a focus region–notable area investments include Tovala, TripScout, and Hologram–but it takes a global lens to investing, with recent deals in Toronto and Guadalajara. BREAKING THE SILICON VALLEY MODEL The Midwest is seeing an explosion of tech startups and unicorns, akin to the Bay Area several years ago. There are more unicorns in the Midwest today than there were in the Bay Area in 2014–the year Moran launched the first VC podcast, The Full Ratchet. Chicago is now home to 20 tech unicorns, with 12 produced in 2021 alone. That makes Chicago competitive with better-known tech hubs: only the San Francisco Bay Area minted more unicorns last year. New Stack Ventures's philosophy is that industry outsiders–those not from the typical Silicon Valley background or located in the major tech hubs–tend to drive the most innovation and success. Many of the biggest unicorns and companies today were started by non-insiders. As such, the firm’s portfolio doesn’t represent the founder that commonly receives funding: Stanford-educated, Google-trained, Bay Area-located. New Stack’s secret for success is finding value in places typically overlooked by other investors. The fund is dedicated to investing intentionally outside of the traditional Silicon Valley formula, and looks for mission-driven founders with an irrational commitment to their cause–regardless of location, background or circumstance. OUTSIDERS INVESTING IN OUTSIDERS The New Stack Ventures team reflects this outsider philosophy. Founder and General Partner Nick Moran came to investing from the corporate world, and does not have the typical background of most tech investors. Previously Moran worked for Danaher in M&A and Product Management, where he developed one of the most successful products in the company’s history — an analytical device for testing compounds in drinking water. While he may not come from a typical investing background, Moran has long been a trusted voice in venture. When he began angel investing in 2013, Moran found the startup fundraising process to be confusing and opaque. To learn more and interview managers one-on-one, Moran launched the first venture podcast back in May 2014, The Full Ratchet, to foster transparency in the industry. New Stack was one of the first VC funds syndicated on the AngelList platform shortly thereafter in 2015. Unlike the majority of emerging managers today, Moran did not spin-out from an existing venture fund. Drawing on his experience as a former operator and angel investor, Moran and his team have built the fund full-stack themselves, including internal and external software systems to help identify the most promising startups. In keeping with their belief that closed networks don't scale, the firm recently launched an outbound software sourcing tool called Seeker, which finds a startup the moment it has a digital presence (website, Form D filing, etc.), sourcing 9,000 potential deals to-date. New Stack’s public-facing inbound software tool VC Rank, which provides founders with customized lists of VC funds, has sourced 2,600 potential deals to-date. “From the beginning, our investing strategy has been centered around disrupting the VC model. We are a fund of firsts: the first venture podcast, an early AngelList syndicate, and first to use software to find deals,” said Nick Moran, Founder and General Partner, New Stack Ventures. “We don’t believe in walled gardens–we believe in creating open systems, providing supportive capital and changing the standard venture model for the future.” To learn more or to send a pitch, please visit www.newstack.vc ABOUT NEW STACK VENTURES New Stack Ventures is an early stage fund dedicated to investing in Silicon Valley outsiders. Based in Chicago, the single-partner fund makes angel, pre-seed, and seed stage investments–typically between $500K - $1.5M–into early-stage startups, and intentionally seeks founders with non-traditional tech backgrounds or companies located outside the major tech hubs. Founder and General Partner Nick Moran launched the first venture podcast, The Full Ratchet, back in May 2014 to foster transparency in the industry–the podcast now has more than 74,000 subscribers. New Stack was also one of the first VC funds syndicated on AngelList. Find them at www.newstack.vc and follow them on LinkedIn and @TheFullRatchet. BUSINESS NAPERVILLE DUPAGE

GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIENDS....ON TIKTOK TikTok has taken the world by storm, and this includes west suburban Chicago. It's not just for teens and tweens - adults make up a big percentage of TikTok users and it is growing daily. The experts at OnBuy Drills were keen to investigate the most popular DIY hacks you should be doing according to TikTok. Along with the results, OnBuy Drills have supplied a series of key safety tips to follow when handling DIY tools from home. 1. Removing candle wax from furniture with ice cubes With Christmas approaching, many will start putting candles out to celebrate the festive season. However, if you do ever spill candle wax on furniture, avoid scraping it off! Instead, fill a plastic bag with ice cubes and place over the wax. The wax will harden enough so that it can be picked off without ruining your expensive mahogany. TikToker @diyonthefly amazed followers with this beneficial hack gaining 458,000 views . 2. Drilling a hole at the bottom of your bin Don’t we all just hate that feeling when you can’t seem to get your bin bag out of the bin. Did you know that drilling a hole in the side of your bin will keep the bag from getting stuck? This gets rid of the vacuum-like seal, helping to easily pull out the bag. However, avoid drilling the holes too low, because that might cause a mess with the bin bag leaking. As seen by @familyhandyman displaying in a TikTok video of this life changing hack. 3. Drilling a drainage hole into your plant pot or vases A drill is a handy, multipurpose tool to use around the house, and it can even be used to drill holes into pots and vases to make the perfect plant pot. Start off with a firm amount of pressure, push the drill into the pot, until the drill bit digs into the surface. Always use a consistent, medium speed to avoid the drill bit spinning too fast. A viral video by TikTok user @justcrazyplantmom with 88,000 views showed followers step by step how to safely do so. 4. Use a plastic glove and sock to paint uneven areas To paint uneven areas such as staircase spindles, the quickest way to do so is by putting on a rubber glove, followed by a sock, then using your hand to paint. A TikTok video by @diywithemma demonstrated the job can be done in a fraction of the time, accumulating 3.5 million views for this DIY hack. 5. Remove scratches on furniture using toothpaste Using a small amount of non-gel toothpaste can effectively remove all traces of scratches from furniture and even glass windows. With 18,600 global searches for ‘how to remove scratches from glass windows’, TikTok has undoubtedly become a helpful teaching tool. Simply apply a small amount of toothpaste to a damp cloth, then rub gently in circular motions. Don’t forget to then clean the excess toothpaste with another cloth. 6. Remove rust from tools and stainless steel To remove any rust from tools or stainless steel, you simply place them in a tub or container with white vinegar and table salt. As seen on TikTok, @mrfixitdiy demonstrates the impressive results after soaking tools for 24 hours, gaining 3.2 million views with this hack. 7. Use a hairdryer to get crayon marks off the walls When kids get their hands on crayons it can spell disaster, however @aftontaylor on TikTok has taught us a simple way to remove all traces of it. Start by using a hairdryer to heat the wall for a few seconds to soften the crayon wax, then wipe off with a soft cloth. 8. Wrap a rubber band around the neck of the soap dispenser to avoid overuse Wrapping a rubber band around the neck of a soap dispenser will slow its flow, meaning you will get the perfect amount of soap with each pump. TikToker @miseenplace-au demonstrated this tip in a TikTok video , amazing her 17,900 followers of how effective this hack is. 9. Make a dust catcher when drilling a hole As shown by @toolstour to their 1.3 million followers in a TikTok video , this simple hack involves cutting off the end of a bottle, drilling a hole into the bottom, then placing this through the drill bit. This will collect all traces of dust when drilling. 10. The right way to use a bin bag The easiest way to use a bin bag is simply placing the opened drawstring edge over the top rim of the rubbish bin, then pushing down inside the bag removing all the air. TikToker @ch0zi stunned fans with this easy hack , reaching 22.9 million views . SOURCE: OnBuy Drills https://www.onbuy.com/gb/drills~c12943/ TECH TIME LIFESTYLE HOME DESIGN
