STUDENT FOUND IN POSSESSION OF FIREARM ON WAHS CAMPUS AURORA–Shortly before 12 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, the Aurora Police Department responded to a report of a student with a firearm on the campus of West Aurora High School. After being identified, the student was detained by APD officers while their backpack was searched. A firearm was retrieved, and the student was taken into custody. Based on the preliminary investigation, Detectives determined that this was an isolated incident, and that the student did not have any specific plans for violence against WAHS. Detectives presented the facts and evidence of the investigation to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following felony charges against the student, who is a juvenile: • 5 counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
 • 1 count of FOID Card Violation
 • 2 counts of Aggravated Battery to a peace officer Student and staff safety on every school campus within the community is a top priority for the Aurora Police Department. Maintaining close partnerships with students, staff, and school administration is crucial in order to resolve incidents such as the one encountered at WAHS today. APD encourages every student, staff member, and parent to feel comfortable communicating when they see something that concerns them, and follow the advice, “If you see something, say something.” Working together, we can make school campuses safe environments for everyone who uses them.

BOND SET FOR NAPERVILLE MAN WHO ILLEGALY SOLD 9 GUNS NAPERVILLE–DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Special Agent in Charge Kristen de Tineo of the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Chicago Field Division announced today that bond has been set for a Naperville man accused of illegally selling multiple guns, two of which were later determined to be stolen. Mohammed Haq, 38 (d.o.b. 1/23/1982) of 2729 East Gateshead Drive, appeared at a bond hearing this morning where Judge Jeffrey MacKay set bond at $100,000 with 10% to apply in accordance with a previously issued arrest warrant. Haq is charged with one count of Gunrunning, a Class 1 Felony.

Through the course of an ongoing investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives into illegal gun sales, Haq was identified as a suspect in the illegal selling of several guns in Aurora. It is alleged that on September 13 through October 11, 2019, Haq illegally sold nine guns to an individual on three occasions. On September 22, 2020, Judge Brian Jacobs issued a $100,000 with 10% arrest warrant for Haq. He was arrested and taken into custody that same day.
“The illegal sale of guns continues to fuel violence in our streets,” Berlin said. “If not for the outstanding work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Aurora Police Department and the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Haq’s alleged illegal gun sales may have resulted in nine additional firearms finding their way into the wrong hands. I applaud the efforts of the ATF, the Aurora Police Department and the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office for their cooperative efforts that resulted in the charges against Mr. Haq. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Kristin Sullivan for her work in securing charges against Mr. Haq.”

“Investigating and prosecuting firearm trafficking is important to ensure firearms are kept out of the hands of prohibited persons,” remarked ATF Special Agent in Charge Kristen de Tineo of the Chicago Field Division. “Partnerships with local law enforcement and state’s attorneys like the Aurora Police Department, the LaSalle Sheriff’s Office and the DuPage County States Attorney’s Office are effective and a force multiplier in conducting these investigations.”
Haq’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 15, 2020 for arraignment in front of Judge MacKay.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. ALL CIVIC-NEWS ALL DUPAGE
