VIEW GIGANTIC KITES AND FLY YOUR OWN KITES AT FRONTIER SPORTS COMPLEX The steady winds at Frontier Sports Complex on Naperville’s south side provide the perfect atmosphere for kite flying. On Sunday, June 6 from 1:00-4:00 p.m., kite experts from Chicago Kite will bring an amazing fleet of kites—some 90 feet long—to dazzle and inspire participants in the Naperville Park District’s Frontier Kite Fly, presented by The Branch. Participants also can enjoy flying kites at this free event, either by bringing their own kites or purchasing them onsite from Chicago Kite. “Children will be delighted to see the colorful kites fill the sky,” said Program Manager Beth Durso. “It’s a fun way for families and people of all ages to kick off the summer season.” The event also will include free entertainment, featuring Ken Schultz the Flying Fool, presenting a juggling show at 1:00 p.m. and Scribble Monster, performing children’s music at 2:00 p.m. Rose Street Eats and Jimmy John’s food trucks will be on site, offering food for purchase. Frontier Sports Complex is located at 3380 Cedar Glade Drive just south of Neuqua Valley High School. Parking is available at the park. Attendees are asked to review participation guidelines for programs and facilities prior to attending. The Naperville Park District follows the guidelines issued by the State of Illinois under the Restore Illinois Plan and developed by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH); those guidelines can be found here: www.napervilleparks.org/coronavirus . Event sponsors include The Branch, KidsMatter, Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau, FBC Remodel, Texas Roadhouse, LeafGuard and Your Story Counseling, P.C. KITE FLY EVENT CANCELLED IN LIGHT OF INREASING COVID-19 CASES IN WILL COUNTY Will County reports 8% positivity rate Naperville Park District has cancelled the Kite Fly event, which was scheduled for Sunday, August 30 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Frontier Sports Complex, due to the elevated COVID-19 positivity rate in Will County. Although this is an outdoor event, based on participations at previous kite fly events, the Park District was concerned that attendance levels might be too high given current conditions. The Kite Fly event was going to be a simplified version of the annual Frontier Kite Fly Festival, typically held in June. “Although Frontier Sports Complex offers plenty of space for kite flying under normal circumstances, given the rise in cases in Will County where Frontier Sports Complex is located, the Park District is taking precautions to limit gatherings by cancelling the Kite Fly event,” said Director of Recreation and Facilities Brad Wilson. “We look forward to bringing back the popular Kite Fly Festival event in 2021.” The Park District continues to follow the guidelines relative to COVID-19 and reminds residents and Park District participants of its COVID-19 updates and participation guidelines that can be found at www.napervilleparks.org/coronavirus .
