Summer Will Be Heating Up with these New Styles Vintage-inspired fashion brand  Retro Stage has announced the release of their newest collection, which takes inspiration from the carefree warmth of summertime. Lovers of retro and nostalgic styles will be able to relax in style and channel their adoration for retro fashion all throughout the season. Retro Stage Gears Up for Summer with New Vintage Clothing Collection Since its inception, Retro Stage has focused on exploring the beauty of historical styles. The brand aims to combine timeless vintage motifs and designs with modern elements to create a unique blend of classic and contemporary that appeals to all 20th-century fashion enthusiasts. This latest series focuses on incorporating seasonal elements so customers can feel the sunshine and get into the summer spirit to start their vacation off right. "We're all very excited to share our hot new summer collection with our customers," said the Retro Stage team. "Our goal is to provide vintage fashion lovers with a wide variety of trendy clothing. The smiling faces of our customers are what keep us going, so we hope to keep bringing that joy to our customers for years to come." When conceptualizing the new summer series, Retro Stage designers took into account the sense of vitality and passion that the season represents for many people. With this in mind, the team endeavored to put a feeling of freedom into every stitch, taking classic vintage patterns in summery color palettes and assembling an incredible collection of swimsuits, dresses, and more. Overall, the 2024 summer series brings the soul of the season to the forefront and presents it through a gorgeous vintage lens that retro fashion lovers will love. One important element of summer wardrobe is swimsuits. The Pink 1940s Halter Polka Dots Bow One-Piece Swimsuit takes inspiration from old maillot-style bathing suits with its built-in ruffled skirt and modest design. Its adorable pink fabric with black polka dots is accented at the chest with a black bow, and the halter design tastefully showcases the shoulders and upper back. The 1950s Halter Contrast Polka Dots Swimsuit features a similar black-and-white polka dot fabric but differs in its daring two-piece structure, consisting of a dotted top and solid black bottoms with a polka dot sash tied in a bow. Other swimsuits from this collection have a similar youthful air and explore the interplay of patterns and solids. One example is the Red 1940s Halter Patchwork One-Piece Swimsuit , a bright red suit trimmed with polka-dotted fabric at the waist, neckline, and hem, and another is the Green 1940s Striped Halter Swimsuit Set , which is made up of a white halter top with green pinstripes as well as dark green bottoms with floral button accents. Both of these pieces would be gorgeous additions to any pool party! Summertime isn't just about swimming and suntanning, but it's still important to stay cool when the sun is beating down. The Red 1950s Cherry V-Neck Halter Lace-Up Romper is a great choice for hot days with its short hemline and lively cherry pattern. Its halter neckline also ties in a bow at the back of the neck for some additional feminine flair. The 1950s Floral Halter Lace-Up Vintage Romper is equally as vibrant thanks to its soft white daisy print bodice, which contrasts beautifully with the rich green that makes up the shorts. Both of these rompers have two sets of three white buttons which emphasize the curve of the waist and add that little something extra that Retro Stage strives for. For those who prefer skirts to pants, there's no shortage of options at Retro Stage. The Light Blue 1940s Floral Shirt Neck Belt Dress is a stunning garment that has its place in any vintage fashion lover's collection, featuring a vivid garden scene on the skirt that trails upward to a crisp button-down bodice adorned with butterflies of all colors. The finishing touch? A ribbon belt tied into a bow at the front that seems to melt into the sea of florals below. At the other end of the spectrum, the Beige 1960s Polka Dot Square Neck Puff Dress  embodies classic vintage elegance, made of an understated cream-colored fabric with deep black polka dots. This piece's short puff sleeves, lightly tailored bust, and surprise skirt ruffles all come together to embody mature, sophisticated womanhood at its absolute finest. All those interested in getting their hands on the latest and greatest vintage fashions are invited to browse the Retro Stage  website for their favorite summer pieces. The Retro Stage team would like to wish each and every one of their customers a happy summer and hopes that their newest designs will help fashionistas look and feel their best heading into the season. Agents Who Suffer from Scarcity Thinking Presented by: Fred Wil son, Fred Wilson Coaching , author of “ Real Estate Attraction ” The main reason so many real estate agents fail to succeed is due to scarcity thinking in their approach to the business. Perhaps the biggest problem in the industry, it typically manifests as the belief that there isn’t always enough opportunity to go around. Through my decades of professional practice—having myself closed a deal a week for 30 years running—I’ve come to estimate that the vast majority of practicing agents are stuck in a scarcity mindset; thinking that opportunity isn’t here now but rather somewhere else. For example, when I ask a group of agents who've never heard me speak before, “Who here in the room believes in abundance?” , pretty much all the hands go up. But when I inquired further about the actual availability of opportunity that very day, most all the hands fell away. That’s because society teaches us that opportunity is a good thing and that more is better—and I agree on both accounts—but then teaches us that opportunity is rare, fleeting, hard to find, not often available, and typically not here today. And yet, just the opposite is true. Opportunity, particularly in real estate sales, is always available due to the way life works. Since everyone is changing and everybody lives somewhere, everyone’s real estate wants and needs are constantly subject to change. Which means that opportunity is always likely available in some way, just not always obvious. But most real estate agents don’t adequately comprehend the way opportunity works and, thus, remain tethered to scarcity. Consequently, they underproduce in sales. But that need not be their fate. Because physical lack of opportunity is not the problem; lack of mental access to opportunity is the problem. Which is to say, the question of opportunity isn’t if it exists but whether it’s recognized. And when it comes to the individual agent’s experience of success in real estate sales, rarely has a more profound and career-impacting statement been made. In truth, you’re never actually a victim of the limitation factors so often blamed by agents for their lack of opportunity and resultant failure in the business. Things like low inventory, tough competition, economic uncertainty, rising interest rates, bad management, inexperience, under confidence, and lack of know-how are common excuses. Instead, the only limitations you ever truly face arise from scarcity thinking; the simple yet utterly self-defeating belief that there isn’t opportunity for you today. Which is a real problem. Because if you don’t believe there’s opportunity, why would you look for it? Think about it. In reality, new business can only ever happen when it’s today and never when it’s tomorrow because, of course, you’re never actually in tomorrow. As a result, in terms of their ability to succeed sooner versus later, most real estate agents unwittingly take themselves out of the game by making one of the most common business-generation mistakes:  working today to make tomorrow pay. On the  contrary, they should be working to make today pay. Success in real estate sales is in large part about how cohesively the qualities of awareness, openness, and alertness work together. In concert, they enable you to observe and interpret the ways in which change—the number one, ever-constant driver in real estate sales—is affecting the individual lives of potential clients and, as a result, creating new opportunities for new business to happen. In other words, access to opportunity (and thus, to success) is a perception thing. Realizing that truth was a game changer  in my career. I no longer had to worry about there being enough opportunity. I learned that missing an opportunity in no way limited the phenomenon of opportunity in my business. I knew that, if I looked at things right, there would always be another deal for me to do. Regrettably, most real estate agents accept without question the (false) cultural norm that opportunity is hard to find. Due to deeply ingrained misconceptions about how opportunity actually works, they operate with resistance, not fluidity, toward their sales goals. And sadly, they don’t know why. But remember this, you cross the great divide from a scarcity mentality to an abundance mentality in life when you no longer assume that opportunity isn’t there but instead assume that it is. Understand that an abundance approach toward opportunity is the unknown (and thus missing) link for most agents; a hidden key that, once found, will unlock the door to more success in real estate sales. Open your mind to what’s possible. Pay attention to what’s happening around you. Embrace the fact that, due to the nature of change in life, opportunity is everywhere. Consciously strive to tap the income-generating (and thus career-enhancing) power of a more high-functioning approach to opportunity in your real estate business.   About Fred Wilson Blending real estate savvy with insightful life philosophy, Fred Wilson leverages over 40 years experience, including co-founding both a brokerage and escrow company. Zoo to Debut the Species May 24 for the First Time in Its 90-year History BROOKFIELD— Chicagoans will soon be able to say “G’day” to a new animal species at Brookfield Zoo Chicago. The Zoo will welcome koalas for the first time in its 90-year history, starting Memorial Day weekend. Named Brumby and Willum, the two 2-year-old marsupials will be visible to guests beginning May 24 in the Zoo’s Hamill Family Play Zoo, now free year-round with general admission. This partnership with San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and San Diego Zoo’s Koala Education and Conservation Project marks a rare opportunity for guests, as Brookfield Zoo Chicago is one of only 11 accredited zoological facilities in North America where the public has the opportunity to see and experience these unique and engaging animals while developing a respect and appreciation for them and wildlife around the world. Koalas have a specific diet—they are one of only a few animals that eat eucalyptus leaves, which are highly poisonous to most other animals. Twice a week, the Zoo will receive a rotation of several different species of fresh eucalyptus leaves for Brumby and Willum. Because of the leaves’ high level of toxicity, the koala has specialized gut bacteria that breaks down the poisonous leaves, extracting all water and nutrients. This is why koalas spend most of their time—up to 18-22 hours a day—sleeping in trees conserving their energy. Although many refer to koalas as bears, there is no relation. According to several sources, the misnomer occurred when English-speaking settlers observed koalas in Australia and thought the animal resembled a small bear. Actually, the koala is the only existing species of the family Phascolarctidae . It is more closely related to other marsupials (pouched mammals) like wombats and kangaroos, which can be seen at the Zoo’s Australia House. Koalas are listed as a “vulnerable” species by the International Union for Conservation and Nature (IUCN) in its native land of Australia. Found in Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales, the species faces several threats, including deforestation, fragmentation of its habitat for development, bushfires, disease, and drought. “This year, as we celebrate our 90th anniversary, we are so excited to introduce our guests to another charismatic species from the land “down under,” said Mark Wanner, associate vice president of animal care and conservation for the Zoo. “Brookfield Zoo Chicago has a long successful history with Australian animals in its care as well as being involved in conservation efforts on the continent.” In the early 1970s, the Zoo purchased 16,000 acres of land in South Australia, named Brookfield Conservation Park. For two decades the Zoo’s researchers helped local conservationists manage and restore the reserve, which was badly depleted by drought and being overgrazed by sheep and rabbits, as well as conducted a number of significant research projects. The successful recovery of the land was an inspiration for the restoration of more than two million acres of severely degraded pastoral property, located about 60 miles east of Brookfield Conservation Park, to be transformed into Murray-Sunset National Park. Over the next few decades the Zoo assisted in the acquisition of other property for conservation and education resources before transitioning its landholdings and conservation operations over to its management partner, the Australian Landscape Trust. Those interested in supporting the care of the koalas at Brookfield Zoo Chicago can contribute to the Animal Adoption program. For $35, a recipient receives the Friend Package, which includes a personalized certificate of adoption, a 5-inch x 7-inch color photograph of a koala, a fact sheet on the species, an Animal Adoption program decal, and an invitation to the exclusive 2024 Animal Adoption summer event. A Plush Package is also available for $65 and includes all the benefits of the Friend Package as well as an adorable 12-inch plush koala and four free tickets to the Animal Adoption evening in 2024. To purchase, visit brookfieldzoo.org/animaladoption .

While officers responded to the scene, a 911 caller reported a male inside the residence was armed with a gun. As officers arrived on scene, they heard a gunshot from within the residence. The front door of the residence opened, and a 43-year-old female exited, stating she had been shot. Aurora Officers rendered aid to the female and turned her over to Aurora Fire Department paramedics. AFD transported the female to a local hospital for treatment, where she remains in serious condition.
