The substantial donation will support a variety of initiatives focused on the enhancement and development of animal habitats, conservation programs, and guest experiences. “We are immensely grateful for this unparalleled act of generosity,” said Dr. Michael Adkesson, president and CEO of the Chicago Zoological Society and director of Brookfield Zoo. “This significant gift will support the construction of Tropical Forests , featuring state-of-the-art outdoor and indoor environments for our great apes, as well as a series of exciting new animal habitats that will be revealed in the Zoo’s forthcoming master plan, slated for release in early 2024. This gift bolsters our ability to create an exceptional future for Brookfield Zoo as we approach our centennial celebration in 2034.” This historic donation extends beyond the immediate benefits, creating a lasting legacy that will impact future generations. This donation will enable us to execute our ambitious plans for Brookfield Zoo and its important role as a conservation organization committed to protecting and preserving endangered species around the globe. While the donor wishes to remain anonymous, their commitment to our shared vision of a brighter future for wildlife and humanity shines brightly,” added Adkesson. The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo , is currently working to honor the donor’s wishes and further develop strategies for the allocation of these funds to maximize their impact. The Zoo plans to reveal further details in early 2024 in tandem with the release of its new master plan and Next Century Campaign.

MEETINGS AND SUPPORT FOR THOSE STRUGGLING WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS PATH was originally founded in March 2014 by two mothers whose sons were in early recovery from addiction.  Seeking guidance through established family support networks, they remained unfulfilled and isolated.  As they witnessed the growing problem of substance abuse in their community, the need for family support became paramount.  By making personal connection through parent meetings, they forged an alliance with others who had similar thoughts, desires and ideas of what an effective support group could offer.  From these ad hoc meetings, PATH was established and on July 28, 2014 PATH received approval as a 50lc3 organization. During the last year, PATH has added six business leaders to our board to help us accomplish our mission. Upcoming Meetings January 8th, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 710 E Ogden Ave #645

AURORA VOLUNTEERS ARE RAISING $25,000 TO HELP WITH TRANSPLANT-RELATED EXPENSES With the cost of a life-saving transplant often exceeding $800,000, most transplant families are unable to shoulder that financial burden. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national 501(c)3 charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses. In Aurora, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local child, Gino Barnes. Gino is the son of Lucero Ramirez. Born in 2015, Gino was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The transplant team at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, has recommended a life-saving heart transplant. Aurora volunteers are raising $25,000 for COTA to assist with transplant-related expenses. Volunteers are needed for this COTA community campaign. Individuals and groups interested in more information should contact Community Coordinator Jury Ramirez at 630.605.1320 or jury24r@gmail.com . Media representatives should contact the Public Relations Coordinator Jury Ramirez at 630.605.1320 or jury24r@gmail.com for more information about the family or the COTA community fundraising effort. COTA helps transplant families avoid financial devastation. Transplant procedure costs range from $100,000 to more than $800,000. Once the transplant is complete, families face significant transplant-related expenses, including medication; transportation to and from the transplant center; lodging; and expenses while parents are out of work and often living with the hospitalized child far from home. These out-of-pocket expenses add up to tens of thousands of dollars annually for transplant families with lifetime totals often exceeding $1,000,000. In cases where a shortfall exists, COTA helps bridge the financial gap. Gino’s family has asked for assistance from the Children’s Organ Transplant Association. One hundred percent of all funds raised for COTA in honor of patients assist with a lifetime of transplant-related expenses. Contributions may be sent to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, 2501 West COTA Drive, Bloomington, Indiana, 47403. Checks should be made payable to COTA , with “ In Honor of Ginos Heart ” written on the memo line. Secure credit card gifts are accepted online at www.COTAforGinosHeart.com .

FUNDRAISING AND FRIENDRAISING The Dunham Fund is pleased to announce Vicki Morcos has recently been named President and CEO. “During the six years Vicki has been with the organization, she has demonstrated her passion for connecting with nonprofits and our partners,” said Stewart Beach, Chairman of the Dunham Fund. “We know Vicki will continue to honor John C. Dunham’s vision to make the world — especially the Dunham Fund service area — a more comfortable, safer place for mankind to live and prosper.” As Partnership Officer, Morcos collaborated with foundations and corporations who have similar missions to leverage resources. Through these partnerships, nonprofits have secured an additional $4 million in funding for programs and projects in the Dunham Fund’s Fox Valley service area. For the past four years, Morcos has overseen professional development workshops to local nonprofits to foster collaboration between organizations to deepen and leverage their impact within the community. Fundraising and “Friendraising” are critical for nonprofits to continue to provide high quality services. To that end, a huge focus has been on the annual Fall Workshop Series that helps organizations prepare for GivingTuesday. Through these efforts, local nonprofits raised $460,500 in 2016 and saw donations increase to $814,000 in 2018. Similarly, with fundraising guidance from the Dunham Fund, Fox Valley nonprofits are poised to raise over a million dollars during the 2019 #ILGive campaign. About Dunham Fund The Dunham Fund ( dunhamfund.org ) is a charitable trust supporting nonprofits in the Aurora, Illinois area. As a place-based funder, the Dunham Fund supports organizations that work to positively impact a defined service area in Chicago's Western Suburbs.
