WHEATON LIONS FOOD DIVE NETS 4,000 POUNDS OF FOOD FOR PEOPLE'S RESOURCE CENTER From September 23 to October 7, 2019, the Wheaton Lions Club held a successful food drive for People’s Resource Center (PRC ) in Wheaton and Carol Stream. This new project is part of the Wheaton Lions “Focus on Hunger” which also supports one of the Club’s primary Pillars of Service in the community. Its other pillars focus on assisting the vision and hearing impaired, the environment, pediatric cancer and fighting diabetes. Nearly 50 local organizations took part in the food drive by accepting donation boxes at their place of business. Wheaton Lions collected the boxes the first week in October and ended up with 4,023 pounds of non–perishable food that was delivered to PRC. “We are overjoyed at the generosity of the Wheaton Lions, and their inspiring leadership in the community,” said Jeni Fabian, Executive Director of the PRC. “This hunger drive will help to reach over 160 neighbors in need, right here at our Wheaton pantry.” In addition, the Lions donated over $700 to purchase diapers for the Wheaton non-profit agency. “We will use the gift to purchase over 3,000 diapers, to reach 300 local families who struggle to make ends meet,” Fabian explained. As we rally to fight against local hunger, the Wheaton Lions Club invited neighbors in Wheaton and Carol Stream to join with them in this event. R.C. Crompton, club president shared, “The Wheaton Lions were very pleased that nearly 50 local businesses partnered with us on this Hunger Food Drive. “Focusing on Hunger” is a new initiative for our club this year and it is gratifying that all the food donations we made to the PRC Food Pantry will go directly to support local families in need.” ABOUT THE WHEATON LIONS CLUB: The Lions Club of Wheaton, established on October 23, 1923, is a local den of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest charity organization. As of June 2019, the Lions Clubs International consists of 1.45 Million members where there are 46,000 Lions Clubs in over 200 countries. The association is both non-political and non-sectarian.
