HOT SUMMER WEATHER & COLD TREATS IN NAPERVILLE

In 1940, inside a small storefront in the village of Tocumbo located in the state of Michoacan, Mexico, cold treats were being made. Since then, thousands of these family owned ice cream parlors have popped up in Mexico and the United States. This large “chain” shares the same concept, but creates their own recipes and menus making no two alike. Lina and Juan Andrade opened La Michoacana last October and already have become a local favorite. The happiness is contagious at this Naperville stop. Customers of all ages line up out the door and are greeted with friendly smiles by informative servers. Not sure about these ethnic flavors, don’t worry sampling is encouraged! Made fresh everyday La Michoacana handcrafts forty ice cream flavors. These helados or ice cream are unique! We couldn’t pick our favorite and enjoyed all of them! For flan lovers the Choco Flan has a little cake in it to add delicious texture to your bite. I did truly enjoy the bubble gum that took me back to my childhood. The Cookie Munster is another kid favorite that every adult should try a bite of. If you love Mexican hot chocolate then try the Chocolate Abuelita. Chocolate lovers will love the Ferrero Rocher chocolate or try the version with bananas added. Use any flavor to make a milkshake. If you want something refreshing and light try their lactose free ice cream or better known as sorbet. These intense flavors of Soursop, Pineapple, Mango, Lime, Guava, Passion Fruit, Watermelon, Strawberry and Cucumber Chili will delight your taste buds. Another light option is the aqua frescas or fruit waters. These beverages are lighter than a juice but still hold the entire flavor. Try mixing two together for a twist. Our favorite was the ice cream bars! Each one was almost too beautiful to eat! Made with family recipes these bars can be ice cream base or fruit sorbet base. Try the Pina colada and you will be transported to the beach! The mango lime and cantelope are a must try unless you prefer chocolate. They offer lots of variety and with advance notice can customize and cater for you! Definitely stop by for a treat to cool you off from the summer heat!
