MORE VANDALISM | Naperville Park District Crews Remove Second Wave of Graffiti in Cantore Park

NEW GRAFFITI FOUND EARLIER TODAY ON PARK PROPERLY ADJACENT TO WELCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Following the removal of graffiti at Cantore Park on Memorial Day, a second wave was discovered on Monday, June 1 in the same area. “BLM” was found spray-painted multiple times in blue and red paint, both on an erected partition and a concrete pad separating Cantore Park from the adjacent Welch Elementary School. A rally for George Floyd was held in the park on Sunday, May 31.

Three adult females, who were apprehended by the Naperville Police Department this afternoon, are being cited with criminal defacement to property and will face a minimum 90-day suspension from the Naperville park system.

Naperville Park District crews mobilized immediately to remove the graffiti. The partition will be permanently removed on Tuesday.

“I recognize that, not just as a community, but as a nation, we are navigating many challenges and we’re feeling pain, fear and mistrust. Everyone has a right to have a voice, but defacing public property is not the way to be heard,” said Ray McGury, Executive Director and Acting Chief of Park Police for the Naperville Park District. “I remain committed, along with our city leaders, to encouraging dialogue in our community that is inclusive, thoughtful and productive, and not violent or destructive. We can make this goal a reality if we work together.”
