ST. CHARLES | 4th of July Festivities Cancelled Due to COVID-19, St. Charles Park District Announced

FOURTH OF JULY ENTERTAINMENT, FOOD SALES & FIREWORKS ARE CANCELLED

Like all other holidays these past few months, COVID-19 restrictions have altered the ability to safely celebrate in the traditional sense. Fourth of July is no exception. Even if St. Charles is permitted to enter into Phase 4 of the governor’s Restore Illinois Plan, only gatherings of 50 people or fewer are advised in addition to social distancing requirements.

"It is important to take all necessary precautions to safeguard the health of our staff, volunteers and residents," said Park Board President Jim Cooke.

After much discussion, the St. Charles Park District has decided to cancel this year's Fourth of July entertainment, food sales, vendors and fireworks display.

"Unfortunately, these unprecedented times are challenging our traditions for the greater good of keeping our community safe," added Cooke.

Families and friends alike have been attending the fireworks at Pottawatomie Park or locations throughout St. Charles for decades as part of their holiday tradition. The Fourth of July holiday embodies so much of what America represents: family, friends, patriotism, good food and more. It is a celebration that fills us with the nostalgia of summer.

“We look forward to the return of the community celebration of Independence Day at Pottawatomie Park for the summer of 2021,” said Cooke.
