54-Year-Old Naperville Resident Struck and Killed Near Fox Valley Mall
AURORA–The Aurora community is grieving following a tragic vehicle-pedestrian accident that claimed the life of a 54-year-old Naperville resident, Derrick Davis. The incident occurred on the morning of February 18th at the intersection of North Illinois Route 59 and Fox Valley Entrance 1, leaving many shaken by the sudden loss.
According to the Aurora Police Department, the collision took place at approximately 8:46 a.m. when a black 2018 Infiniti Q50 struck Davis as he attempted to cross the busy roadway. Officers arrived promptly to find the injured man lying in the middle through lane of Illinois Route 59. Aurora Fire Department personnel rushed him to Rush Copley Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:59 a.m.
Traffic investigators determined that Davis was crossing the road eastbound when he entered the path of the northbound Infiniti. Though the driver tried to stop, the collision was unavoidable. The Infiniti’s driver remained at the scene, cooperating fully with authorities.
To uncover the exact details of the crash, the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division spent several hours reconstructing the accident at the site. The Kane County Coroner’s Office has since taken custody of Davis’s remains and will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
News of Davis’s passing has left the local community shocked and saddened. Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross expressed his sympathy for the late pedestrian’s loved ones, saying, “Our hearts go out to Mr. Davis’s family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. Incidents like this remind us all of the unpredictability of our roadways and the need for care and caution as we travel through our community.”
The Aurora Police Department continues to investigate the incident, urging anyone with additional information to come forward. Chief Cross’s words resonate as a reminder of the shared responsibility that drivers and pedestrians alike bear for safety on the road.
For now, the community mourns a life taken too soon. Derrick Davis, a resident of Naperville, leaves behind family, friends, and neighbors who remember him with love.
