MEET THE AUTHOR OF CHICAGO SCAVENGER: THE ULTIMATE SEARCH FOR CHICAGO'S HIDDEN TREASURES
CHICAGO–About a year into the pandemic, Chicago author Jessica Mlinaric was speaking to her publisher about ways that people could get back to engaging with the city and each other in a safe way. On the tails of her last book, Secret Chicago: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful and Obscure (2018), they came up with the idea for an outdoor scavenger hunt and interactive mission to explore 17 neighborhoods across the city. Readers of her new book, Chicago Scavenger: The Ultimate Search for Chicago’s Hidden Treasures, decipher riddles in rhyme and track down photos leading them to over 300 hidden gems, including little-known museums, vibrant public artworks, nature areas, overlooked historical markers, charming cafes and architectural oddities.
“When I first moved to Chicago, I was curious about everything I saw and started sharing stories about interesting places on my blog Urban Explorer (urbnexplorer.com),” says Jessica. “With Chicago Scavenger, you aren’t holding a book; it’s a treasure map to unlock the hidden gems of Chicago’s neighborhoods.”
Jessica’s goal is to inspire others to engage with people and places that are new to them and see the familiar in a new light. Chicago Scavenger can be found at Barnes and Noble, Amazon and your local bookstore, along with on her website www.chicagoscavenger.com
