ELMHURST | Fatal Traffic Crash Under Investigation, One Woman was Killed, Three Injured



HEAD ON COLLISION RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF AN ADULT FEMALE DRIVER EARLIER TODAY

ELMHURST–Heartbreaking news out of Elmhurst earlier today, as the community learned of a tragic traffic crash that occurred on St. Charles Road near Hill Avenue.


According to a press release by the Elmhurst Police Department, on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 5:08 a.m. the Elmhurst Police and Fire Departments responded to a 911 call of the serious traffic crash. Upon arrival, police and fire personnel located a Chevrolet SUV and an Audi SUV on St. Charles Road, both with significant front-end damage.


The Audi SUV was occupied by an adult female driver as the sole occupant. She was transported by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital with serious injuries. The Chevrolet SUV was occupied by an adult female driver, a 4-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl. The Chevrolet driver was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters, however, was found to be deceased. The children were transported to Loyola University Medical Center by paramedics with serious injuries.


The DuPage County Coroner’s Office and DuPage MERIT Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene to assist in the investigation of the collision. The roadway was closed until approximately 11:30 a.m. as emergency personnel investigated.

Preliminary investigation indicated the Chevrolet SUV was traveling eastbound on St. Charles Road when it drifted over the center line and collided with the westbound traveling Audi SUV. Identification of the decedent is being withheld at this time to ensure proper notification of the victim’s family.


This fatal traffic crash remains under investigation by the Elmhurst Police Department and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Elmhurst Police at (630) 530-3050.
