COVID-19 | DuPage County Coroner Preparedness for COVID-19

HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES, FUNERAL DIRECTORS HAVE CONCERNS

WHEATON – DuPage County Coroner, Richard Jorgensen, MD, has announced the opening of an ancillary morgue to be prepared for the possibility of a large number of deceased persons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Jorgensen stated, “I have had numerous calls from our local Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Funeral Directors concerning the need for facilities if a worst case scenario of this pandemic occurred. In response to these serious concerns we have purchased a mobile morgue unit that has been installed on our property in a secure and respectful way.”  The facility will be available until the end of this pandemic and can be expanded as needed. Dr Jorgensen stated, “I have personally spoken to every Hospital and Funeral Director in DuPage County to inform them of this facility and the policy and procedure for how we will use it. We are dedicated to addressing this uncertain and unprecedented event and will do all we can to prepare for and address the needs required of us.”
