THE LOSS OF A HOLLYWOOD ICON
The world received sad news today as we learned that Raquel Welch, a longtime actress, international sex symbol and Golden Globe winner, has died. She was 82.
The news was released that Welch "passed away peacefully early this morning after a brief illness." This was confirmed by her manager Steve Sauer, confirming it with major news outlets on Wednesday.
He added, "Raquel's career spanned over 50 years starring in over 30 films and 50 television series and appearances. The Golden Globe winner, in more recent years, was involved in a very successful line of wigs. Raquel leaves behind her two children, son Damon Welch and her daughter Tahnee Welch."
The news reports went on to share that Welch made her film debut in the mid 1960s, with breakout roles in 1966's Fantastic Voyage and One Million Years B.C. that same year. She would go on to star in dozens of films, including 1973's The Three Musketeers, which earned her a Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture comedy or musical.
Welch visited Naperville in October 2010 to promote her new book "BEYOND THE CLEAVAGE". Residents enjoyed meeting the icon as Hollywood glamour came to Anderson’s Bookshop in downtown Naperville. Even the late Mayor Pradel was there to celebrate with her.
Her beauty and talent will be missed by many.
