ARTIST OF THE WEEK | Jim Jenkins of Geneva

by Mindy Kyle

GENEVA SCULPTOR USES ARTISTIC TALENT TO BRING A VARIETY OF MATERIALS TO LIFE

Whatever the material is that is needed to bring a vision to life, Geneva sculptor Jim Jenkins will find a way to use it. Among many others he has worked with steel, stainless steel, glass, stone, ice, snowflakes, music, cosmic rays and hardwood. However, he states his favorite element incorporated into every piece he has ever done is time. “The complications are part of the fun of it or they’re there to distract and suggest an alternative path,” says Jim.

A degree in Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Iowa and an extensive background in manufacturing, fabrication, sound engineering principles and several other trades has afforded Jim many opportunities for commissioned work. Just a part of his artistic achievements brought The Quartet for the End of Time and The Angel of the Apocalypse sculptures to the Ramsey Auditorium Stage at Fermilab in 2018 as well as A Hand in It at the New Lenox Public Library and Going with the Flow at the Geneva River Park. Just this July The Cosmic Clockwork was installed in Quincy, IL.
