ARTIST OF THE WEEK | Jeremy Foy of Geneva

ALWAYS BUILDING AND CREATING, WITH CURIOSITY LEADING HIM TO FALL IN LOVE WITH CERAMICS

Although Geneva artist Jeremy Foy has often participated in performance art (he once tried out for the circus), what students and onlookers find him doing in his studio is ceramic art. “I enjoy working with clay for its malleability, the force it can show and how it can leave a voice,” says Jeremy.

Growing up, Jeremy was always building and creating and his curiosity lead him to fall in love with ceramics. “I saw someone throwing on the wheel,” Jeremy explains, “and I told myself, ‘I could do that’, not necessarily because I saw my future but more because I was competitive, and when I see something I’ve never attempted, I have to try it.”

As an adjunct professor at Rock Valley College, McHenry County College and Kishwaukee College and a teacher at Water Street Studios in Batavia, Jeremy considers himself lucky to use his artistic talents in every job. He is remarkably busy juggling multiple jobs and a family, but he is always looking for that opportunity that would allow him to build a program and get into the studio more, rather than always on the move.
