ARTIST OF THE WEEK | Carol Kazwick of Downers Grove

by Mindy Kyle

CREATING ART USING HANDMADE PAPER AND PRODUCTS SHE FOUND

The landscape, the natural world, texture and color are Downers Grove Artist Carol Kazwick’s inspirations. “Using my handmade paper with found objects, I hope to celebrate the beauty of the environment we share and are surrounded by every day,” says Carol. Her favorite aspect of creating her art is solving the problems that come up while taking her idea from her sketchbook to the finished piece. “I create the paper to specifically express the intention of each piece.”

As an art instructor for over 30 years at Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, Carol finds joy and satisfaction in creating art and teaching others to express themselves through their artwork. She is also the curator of the Kavanagh Gallery at the Center. Her art is sold through galleries as well as various exhibits, shows and competitions, however with Covid-19 restrictions, many shows have been canceled or postponed until 2021 or 2022. “This has moved artists to the internet and social media to promote and market their work,” says Carol. “This is challenging as many of us need to learn a whole new set of skills.”
