WEST SUBURBAN VIP | Local Singer Reaches Stardom with The Glenn Miller Orchestra & More

MEET HANNAH TRUCKENBROD OF THE GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA AURORA–At only 22 years old, Hannah is living out her dreams as the only female vocalist with The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra (GMO).

From a young age, Hannah was immersed in the arts through school and community groups where she played multiple instruments, performed in shows, and took art classes. Her curiosity for the arts led her to pursue musical studies at Western Michigan University, where she became a member of WMU’s premier vocal jazz ensemble, Gold Company, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies.

This Aurora, Illinois hometown girl graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School in 2014 and is already making her mark performing in famous opera houses and venues from New York to Los Angeles and up through Canada. Local stops include The Arcada Theatre in St. Charles on October 6th, The Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights on December 17th, and Porretta’s Banquets in Chicago in May, 2020. Hannah also released her debut solo record of Great American Songbook tunes, “Nobody Else But Me,” in 2018.

Hannah loves returning to the Aurora house she grew up in and stays with her parents, 19-year-old brother, and two cats. She enjoys Aurelios Pizza, shows at the Paramount Theatre, and has fond memories of swimming at the Phillips Park pool, exploring Downtown Naperville, checking out books from the Eola Road Branch library, and all the opportunities she had for performing in the community.

“As a young girl, I loved the spotlight,” Hannah shares. “Entertaining was fun for me, and it came naturally. I always had dreams of being on American Idol, or cast in a Broadway show, but I never really conceptualized how I was going to get there. It wasn't until I was in college that I finally embraced singing and performing as what I was meant to do.”

Hannah has been performing with The Glenn Miller Orchestra since May 6, 2018. Her journey with them started almost a year prior when her grandfather took her and her brother to a small inn in Mt. Dora, FL to listen to the jazz trio that played there on Friday nights; they subsequently joined in and played a couple tunes with the trio. The drummer that night was Greg Parnell, who works in the corporate office for the GMO and put her in touch with Nick Hilscher, the music director to set up an audition with the band.
