SAVORY & SWEET SISTERS | Hazel Marie’s Ice Cream In Plainfield

Hazel Marie’s Ice Cream, Glancer Magazine

AN ICE CREAM PARLOR WITH A SWEET HISTORY Step inside Hazel Marie’s ice cream shop where the story is just as sweet as the sundaes! Aromas of warm waffle cones float through the air while family heirlooms sit on the shelves.

Longtime Plainfield resident, Tammy Barvian reminisced about her sleepovers at her Nana and Papa’s house. Every night ended with a bowl of her Papa’s favorite espresso ice cream sitting on the porch in her very own rocking chair. Tammy shared that this same rocking chair sits on a shelf in her ice cream parlor as a constant reminder of years gone by. Her story adorns the wall, as does a portrait of her Nana. Tammy Barvian always knew that ice cream represents happy times centered around family and her dream was to open her own shop and name it after her Nana, Hazel Marie.

Menu items include signature sundaes honoring loved ones. Double Fun is just as much fun as Ken and Tammy’s twin boys! Chocolate ice cream topped with chocolate and peanut butter sauces, with a spoonful of mini reese’s peanut butter cups. Papa’s sundae includes his favorite espresso ice cream, covered in chocolate sauce and brownie bites. Hazel Marie’s is a combination of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, salted caramel sauce and pecans. With homemade strawberry topping, the banana split is something not to pass up! Shakes, malts, and old -fashioned root beer floats are just a few more sweet treats on the menu.

Hazel Marie’s has twenty-four ice cream flavors. Try as many as you’d like upon vintage silver tasting spoons– cotton candy that will bring back memories of the summer state fair or cookie dough with the perfect ratio of chocolate chips and cookie dough. Get creative and add any combination of toppings, including brownie bits, crushed oreos, mini peanut butter cups, rainbow sprinkles, or Spanish peanuts. It doesn’t stop at just toppings they also have lots of sauces to choose from; butterscotch, chocolate, hot fudge, peanut butter, pineapple, salted caramel, raspberry and strawberry.Hazel Marie’s is open from April until September, so stop by to satisfy your sweet tooth this summer while making family memories that will last a lifetime!
