GIVING BACK | John Lachman Receives Good Samaritan Recognition Award

MEALS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEER RECOGNIZED AS GOOD SAMARITAN BY GLENSIDE FIRE PROTECTION

On February 19, John Lachman, a resident of Bloomingdale and a DuPage Senior Citizens Council (DSCC) volunteer was presented “Good Samaritan” recognition award. John received the award for a Well-Being Check/Emergency Follow-Up that occurred in December.

John was delivering meals when he heard a Glendale Heights senior cry for help from inside her home. When he entered the home, he found the senior lying on the floor. John immediately followed the Well-Being Check protocol and called 911, John stayed by the senior’s side until paramedics arrived. When the paramedics arrived, they told John that she had been on the floor for about an hour. Without the Well-Being Check, we would not know how long she would have remained on the floor.

John has been volunteering for DSCC’s Meals on Wheels Service since 1999. He volunteers at both DSCC’s Glendale Heights Center for Senior Citizens and Bloomingdale Township Senior Center locations. John says, “I love delivering meals because I know the people appreciate it and they need it. Sometimes I am the only person they see all day and it makes me feel good being there for them.” The award given to John by Glenside Fire Protection District at Glendale Heights Center for Senior Citizens. Fire Chief Russ Wood presented the award to him.
