MOM'S LITTLE BLACK BOOK | Axeplosion

AXEPLOSION I watched the axe throwing trend sweep across Chicago a couple of years ago but most of the venues had an age restriction of 18 years and up. As the activity gained in popularity, it spread into the suburbs and the restrictions eased as confidence was gained with the safety of the sport. It still remains one of the hottest new trends for young teens to adults, and with Axeplosion now in Lombard, west suburban residents have the added convenience of nearby fun.

The recommended age is 13 and up due to the weight of the axe and skill needed to hit the target, but you are certainly welcome to bring younger kids. The venue is relaxed, yet experts are on hand to ensure safety at all times. You can even bring in outside food and drink to their lounge area and make a day of hanging out with the kids.

When I arrived with my teens, we all went into the range a bit cocky; after all, how hard could it be to throw an axe at a wood target? Ha! We quickly learned you must spin the axe just right, with just the right amount of power – and, you have no freak’n idea how hard it was to anchor that son of a gun!

Tessa put us all to shame and we started to believe that one board was easier than the other, so we switched sides to try and gain points which only proved that it truly was in the talent of the thrower and not a “bad board”. We eventually caught on and began to keep score which really made the competition fun and the happy dances begin with each successful throw!

Overview Welcome to the largest axe throwing venue in Chicago where Axeplosion Experts will guide you through the basics of axe throwing in 10 to 15 minutes; then you can go ahead and Axeplode against your targets and compete against your friends. Experts are on hand to help and keep everyone safe at all times!
