BOOK SIGNING | Portillo's Founder Set for Anderson’s Bookshop Stop

DICK PORTILLO, FOUNDER OF THE FAST FOOD EATERY CHICAGOANS LOVE, SET FOR BOOK SIGNING AT ANDERSON'S BOOKSHOP
Anderson’s Bookshop, Naperville, is delighted to welcome Dick Portillo to a special book celebration of his memoir, Out of the Dog House, on Monday, December 3 at 7 pm. Portillo’s name sparks taste buds among Chicagoans, who love his fast food menu that has been satisfying hungry fans for 55 years. Now that empire has spread across the country into California, Arizona, Florida and Wisconsin and Minnesota.

How Portillo rose to the top is an American story of hard work and ingenuity to be admired. The business was launched with his $1,000 investment in a room-sized portable trailer, named “The Dog House,” in west suburban Villa Park. In time, Portillo’s delicious Chicago style hot dogs and speedy service combined to grow his business to enormous success. From hot dog to top dog, Portillo followed his dreams!

This event is free and open to the public. To join the booksigning line, please purchase the author’s featured book at Anderson’s Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave., in the heart of Naperville, (630) 355-2665 or online at www.andersonsbookshop.com.

About the Book: In 1963, Dick Portillo built a 6’ x 12’ trailer with no running water or bathroom and opened a simple hot dog stand in Villa Park, Illinois. He called it "The Dog House." More than 50 years and 50 locations later, his namesake Portillo's restaurants are a Windy City institution, famous for perfect, Chicago-style dogs. In Out of the Dog House, Portillo tells the incredible story of his life, sharing the ingenuity and hard-earned wisdom that went into building a beloved restaurant chain. From a modest childhood as the son of Greek and Mexican immigrants, to the core principles that became essential in growing a national business, this is a singular, at times surprising, tale of how one man crafted his own American dream, one hot dog at a time.

Dick Portillo’s upcoming visit is part of Anderson’s Bookshops’ calendar of special author events. Anderson’s Bookshops specialize in book sales, author events, book signings, and building a sense of community, learning and fun. The store has been helping Naperville readers for six generations. Additional locations include Downers Grove, at 5112 Main Street (630) 963-2665 and La Grange, at 26 S. La Grange Rd. (708) 582-6353. A toy shop, Anderson’s Toyshop, at 111 W. Jefferson Ave. is also in the heart of Naperville. Key to Anderson’s success has been special author events, like the December 3 program with Dick Portillo at Anderson’s Bookshop.
