PRETZELS WITH A NEW TWIST Gnarly Knots in Winfield is rolling out a whole lot of pretzels! Funi McLaughlin and Matt Finn have been serving up pretzels with a new twist since May of 2013. The menu states that they are “deliciously addictive” and we know that to be true! Shortly after leaving we wanted to return for just one more bite or to try a different combination.

The creative force behind the Knots, Funi and Matt started sharing their passion for perfection only six years ago at the Downers Grove Farmers Market. Growing in popularity and demand they decided to settle into a home base to build their brand. Since then lines form out the door and every patron knows to get there early or you will miss out!

So what did we find in this quaint white cottage in Winfield? Without a doubt, we found the perfect pretzel.

Each soft hand crafted pretzel is stuffed or topped with so much goodness. Savory options available everyday include, salted, garlic parmesan topped, and gooey cheese filled. If you have a sweet tooth the cinnamon sugar coated is amazing, with the perfect ratio of cinnamon to sugar.

There are also daily special stuffed pretzels. Salami and Provolone, carnitas taco, Italian beef, cheese burger, caramel apple, bacon egg and cheese just to name a few. If you are looking for a mix of savory and sweet (our favorite) try the salted pretzel with the cinnamon butter sauce. Funi describes the mild creamy mustard dipping sauce as not only for people who like mustard but for people who don’t like mustard too. With so many options for pretzels and dipping sauces you too will find your favorite.

Other great finds are the pretzel chips and the pretzel dog. This foot long all beef dog wrapped in pretzel dough is a favorite of many and sells out quickly! Daily homemade soups add a perfect complement to these amazing pretzels.

Also available with a one day preorder are the chocolate chip cookie dough stuffed and the giant birthday cake stuffed pretzels.

Like them, friend them, follow them for daily specials but definetly get there early! These aren’t your average pretzels but have a new twist.
