TO GIVE, TO INSPIRE | The TLR Gives Back Foundation

TLR GIVES BACK FOUNDATION Annual Back to School Musical Fundraiser Fashion Show Well, here we go. Summer has ended, and kids are heading back to school. Cooler weather should be upon us soon and with that, comes my absolute favorite time to shop for new clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer and my shorts and flip flops, but there’s nothing like the fall fashions with all the new jeans, tops, sweaters, dresses and boots. Oh, how I do adore boots! One of the best ways to get a feel of the new trends is to find yourself a local fashion show. The Ladies Room (TLR) Gives Back Foundation is one to watch for every year. Last month, they produced their 4th Annual Back to School Fashion Show, but with a unique twist of adding live music concerts into the afternoon.

The TLR Gives Back Foundation was founded by Catrina Kagel, owner of The Ladies Room Resale Boutique in Lombard, to empower young women and men to be the best they can in life and to help keep music alive in our schools one note at a time. “I have been able to find a way to give back to the community by combining both of my passions together – fashion and music,” says Catrina.

This year’s fashion event, held at the Crowne Plaza in Glen Ellyn, showcased various specialty designers and fall styles from The Ladies Room Resale Boutique. People’s Resource Center, the foundation’s philanthropy, was on hand to collect donated school supplies. Alongside the fashion show, musicians of all ages that wanted to make a difference in their community were given the opportunity to take the stage and entertain guests. Throughout the afternoon, attendees were able to vote for their favorite school’s music department to be the recipient of the profits made from the show. This year’s winner was Chicago Academy of Music.

Catrina wanted to incorporate music into her fundraising after the passing of her grandmother who suffered from dementia but was always soothed by music. This past March, they were approved to become a non-profit 501c3 which will allow them to provide music scholarships to individuals in her honor The TLR Gives Back Foundation is always grateful for donations and volunteers. They are always looking for local women and girls to model in their shows, young designers to showcase their work on the runway, musicians to play and sponsors for their events.
