LITERARY LOCALS | Patricia Toht, Wheaton

PATRICIA TOHT, WHEATON

All Aboard the London Bus/Pick a Pine Tree

Once the owner and operator of the children’s bookstore, Never Never Land and the toy store, Toy Stop, both located in downtown Wheaton from 1988-1995, Patricia Toht has long been in love with children’s books. Although she entertained the idea of writing for children then, she wasn’t able to devote time to it until years later.

Patricia’s first book, All Aboard the London Bus, is a picture book of child-friendly poems about the city of London, inspired by the few years they lived outside of the capital city. “It was amazing to have so much history surrounding us,” says Patricia. “My experiences worked themselves into poetry.”

The poems incorporate iconic sights like Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, as well as experiences, like taking tea and riding the underground trains. Her second book, Pick a Pine Tree, grew from their family’s Christmas tree tradition of selecting a live tree and bringing it home to decorate.

Currently, you can find her books at independent booksellers like Prairie Path Books (Wheaton), The Bookstore (Glen Ellyn), Town House Books (St. Charles, and Anderson’s Bookshops (Naperville, Downers Grove, LaGrange). They can also be ordered online at IndieBound, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
