NAPERVILLE — Naperville’s Sister Cities Commission (SCC) is encouraging young artists to submit their artwork into the 2017 Young Artists Showcase competition. Entries are due by Friday, March 31, with a gallery show and award ceremony planned for Thursday, April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Naperville Art League, 508 N. Center St.

This year’s theme, “We’re Going Places,” showcases the importance of travel and exchange in achieving peace. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from their experiences with sister cities, travel, exchange, international friendships and their goals to present their vision of where the future will lead.

The Young Artists Showcase is open to Naperville residents and students between 13 and 18 years of age enrolled in Naperville Community Unit School District 203, Indian Prairie School District 204, Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School, All Saints Catholic Academy or St. Raphael Catholic School. All completed artwork and entry paperwork should be brought to the Mayor’s Office at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St., by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 31.

All submitted artwork will be displayed at the April 6 awards ceremony, where the SCC will recognize one finalist, one semi-finalist and four honorable mentions. The finalist and semi-finalist will receive awards and the SCC will submit the finalist’s artwork to Sister Cities International in Washington, D.C. for national, and potentially international, recognition.
