PET WALK & RUN, Sunday June 6, Hinsdale Humane Society

NEW DOG- & STROLLER-FRIENDLY CERTIFIED 5K RACE MARKS ONE OF MANY CHANGES AT THIS 27-YEAR OLD EVENT

Hinsdale Humane Society’s annual Pet Walk & Run fundraiser returns in 2016 on Sunday, June 5 from 8am-noon at Katherine Legge Memorial Park, 5901 S. County Line Road in Hinsdale. New this year: a certified 5K Run throughout Hinsdale neighborhoods, that begins and ends in Katherine Legge Park.

The event will still feature an even bigger vendor mall, entertainment and demonstrations. Judy Hsu from ABC-7 joins the fun as our emcee.

For runners, race packet pick-up will take place at Spark Fitness, 777 North York Rd in Hinsdale, Suite 5 & 6 on Friday, June 3 from 2-8pm and Saturday, June 4 from 9am-1pm.

Awards will go to top finishers in each age bracket. Activities for children include a Kids’ Dash, crafts and face painting.

“Our 27 year old Pet Walk is benefitting already from the addition of the 5K race,” said Lori Halligan, Executive Director, HHS. “We are excited to offer this opportunity to the community and to reach a new audience of runners with our message of Adopt, Don’t Shop. Special thanks go to Mistie Lucht, a volunteer Ambassador at HHS, who brought this idea to us and has been integral in helping us make it a reality.”

Registration is $35 per adult prior to May 1. On May 1, registration goes up to $40. Walkers (not timed) are $25, children age 9 and under running the 5K (timed) are $25, Kids’ Dash participants are $10 each, and will each receive a hero cape. Race day registration is from 7am-7:45am (t-shirts are not guaranteed). Warm-up with Spark Fitness begins at 7:45am, Kids’ Dash at 9:15am and 5K Race Awards are presented at 9:30am.

Once runners and walkers finish the event, guests can spend time at our family-friendly festival. Our Vendor Mall will feature dozens of local vendors, many of whom have free giveaways for attendees. Local rescue groups will also be featured within the mall area as well as Ask-A-Trainer and Ask-A-Vet booths.

Pet Walk & Run registration information is available at www.hinsdalehumanesociety.org. For more detailed information, call (630) 323-5630 or email pr@hinsdalehumanesociety.org.
