MOM'S LITTLE BLACK BOOK | Cupcakeologist

Every time I say the word “cupcake” in my house, my girls giggle and always ask if I remember the guy from Cupcakeologist. This unique cupcake lab has left a lasting impression on our family because our server, Mike, exuded a passion for his trade like no other. He made the business' mission of wowing customers and making them smile, his personal undertaking, turning our otherwise drab afternoon into a fun experience.

I had no intention of writing about our afternoon snack for a Mom’s Black Book adventure, but after leaving Cupcakeologist several hours later, with full bellies and faces that hurt from laughing so much, I had to share the fun idea. I can best liken the food experience to that of a frozen yogurt shop with similar ample choices; but unlike most yogurt shops, the choices include cupcakes, made fresh daily, with your choice of frosting or whipped cream, your personal favorite ice cream flavor, selections of candies and fruit toppings, sprinkles, etc., with variations including sundaes, smoothies, cupcake shakes (yep – you read that correctly- cupcake shakes), coffee, latte, and espressos.

Cupcakeologist will make any special flavor of cupcake upon your request, vegan and gluten-free options inclusive. With a lab-like atmosphere, you can experiment with your cupcake creations with helpful tips and free tastings from your server. Once we had created our masterpieces, we sat and enjoyed the complimentary board games offered at each table. We sat for hours enjoying our cupcake treat while playing silly games that we hadn’t played in years. Our afternoon of fun cost $4/each for an unlimited cupcake creation, after applying a Groupon I had found online. Since the lab is located near the Promenade in Bolingbrook, you can extend your day by adding a movie at iPic Theaters, a Promenade special event, or one of the many ongoing free activities at the nearby Bass Pro Shop.
