MOM'S LITTLE BLACK BOOK | Village Greens Golf Course

September 2010 - SWINGING FREE

Free. It has become my new favorite word and probably redundant in most of my articles. I just love that word! I also love my friends that pass along great information to me. This idea was passed along by Ann Zediker who joins me on many adventures.

Golf anyone? No, not miniature golf which most of us and our children have played, but real golf, bag over the shoulder, carrying your own clubs kind of golf. Village Greens of Woodridge Golf Course if offering a spectacular program for children ages 4-17. The program is called 1000 First Swings. The staff at the course golf was amazing. Cooper spent much of her time with us to help our group learn the basics of swinging a golf club. She taught the kids which club was used when, how to hold the club, when to use a tee, and the rest was history. Cooper amazed us with her swinging ability and inspired the children to hit the ball as far as possible, as her ball almost went over the fence. Village Greens provided each child with a bag of kid size golf clubs, a bucket of balls and the encouragement to be the best golfer possible. Each child in our group lost their hockey and batting swing and learned patience as their natural golfing skills shined.

After hitting endless balls on the driving range, we moved to the putting green and practiced using our putter. There were multiple holes to practice on as they honed in on their miniature golf skills. Brandon Evans, General Manager and Head Professional, made the children feel very important as he quizzed them on their new learned skills and offered each a golf ball and bag of tees to take home. Another adventure, another fun free day!
