MOTIVATING RESIDENTS ALL OVER TOWN
Everyone is looking for a little motivation at the start of the year, but have you ever thought about what motivates the motivators? For fitness expert Staci Boyer the answer is simple.
"As cliché as it sounds, motivating you is what motivates me," she says. "I always say I have been on a journey for 25 years , and for me this field has always been for me to improve the quality of someone else's life."
Staci is a busy woman. A mom to two boys, she not only works as a personal trainer out of her Naperville home, but works with school districts 203 and 204 and the Girl Scouts. In addition to training, she gives motivational talks, and if that were not enough, in December her first book, was published, Motiv8n'U.
"The book is not just about health and fitness," Staci explained. "It's autobiographical too. I talk about some awful stuff and how I have gotten through it. It's also interactive, so the reader can set goals. I feel that it's a foundation for making real change. "
Staci describes how she lost her mother at 15, was raped at 16, and went on to survive bankruptcy and divorce. She served in the Persian Gulf War in the Navy where she trained medics.
Two years ago she found God.
"In my book I talk about being spiritually fit, which I see as the foundation of being physically well," she said.
"I believe everything must be done in a spirit of gratefulness and generosity. My clients aren't all Christians, so I define this as the roots of my philosophy. You have to be driven by courage and confidence it's not just about ego and money."
Staci's clients may come for physical help in her basement gym, but usually end up gaining emotional advice too.
"I'm a wellness coach, I like to be well rounded," she said. "Sometimes it's a therapy session designed as a workout. I lead by example. I don't judge, but if people ask me about how they need to change I can dissect them when I know what their answers are."
Staci advises moms to make sure they are on their own 'to do' lists so they can be good role models to their children. She says she makes sure she goes to sleep by 10:30pm and takes vitamins.
"It helps me stay focused," she said. "What I do is not a job it's doing what I love."
Motiv8n'U is available from Anderson's Bookstore, Naperville at $19.95. To learn more about Staci visit www.staciboyer.com.
