PLEASANTLY SURPRISED Jan 2012
“While reading about the "40 Fascinating Faces of the Year," I was pleasantly surprised to see Josh McLeod. He was a student in my first grade class at Tate Woods Elementary School in Lisle in 1995-96! Since Tate Woods is a grade level building with only first and second grade, it is difficult to keep up with former students after they move on to third grade. Congratulations to Josh on his accomplishments on and off the athletic field. And it's wonderful that he is planning to be an elementary teacher!” -Jane Buschkopf, Naperville
HONORABLE DISTIN CTION Jan 2012
“From all of us here at Genghis Grill, The Mongolian Stir Fry in beautiful Downtown Wheaton, we just wanted to say how much we appreciated being "Restaurant of the Month" for Glancer Magazine. Many of the folks who came in mentioned that they would try us because of that honorable distinction, and left as new Fans of the restaurant. We love the Glancer and all of its readers because they are supportive of the local businesses and are just downright good people. The entire staff looks forward to seeing the Glancer each month to get all the information on the local shops, deals and really great photos! Thanks again for this honor.” –The Genghis Grill Team

LOCAL MOM RELIES ON GLANCER
MAGAZINE AS A RESOURCE Oct 2011
Glancer has played a HUGE part in helping me assimilate my family in our move to Naperville 3 years ago. The news was abrupt and stressful for all 5 of us. I quit my career & made it my life's work to create a home of comfort & to help my kids transition each of their lives. I'd wait for the Glancer events calendar each month & literally fill our family calendar with community-type of activities to help the kids feel they belonged. It was through the magazine that I came to find my favorite shops (Red Geranium & little Luxuries) and so many others, that helped me create a home that would comfort them. It was also through the magazine that I got familiar with downtown Naperville-which was pivotal to our family finally accepting the move... Our first trip there (after I studied thru the mag & found the most fun places) ended in a big photo shoot of huge smiling (pre-braces) faces that I still look at often. Now the pics bring tears to my eyes because I see how far they've come in only 3 years!! I have also enjoyed "getting to know" Lindy through her columns and hunting down so many of the Glancer's "Finds." I remember being relieved to find a great hair salon featured in the mag the week i moved here - when i desperately needed some me time.
Anyway, please keep providing such a well-done, thorough, interesting & creative publication. Thanks, and please keep it coming!" -Nicole Beck, Naperville

Phil was about seven years old and the man remembered him helping his father!! My husband was elated! Thanks, Glancer, for showing us what a small world it really is!" –Phil & Jan Lombardi of Lombardi's Famous Beef in Town Square, Wheaton, April 2011

WHY WE LOVE READING
“I love it because the restaurant reviews are helpful, and the spotlight stories about people in our community who really make a difference and contribution enhance our sense of pride in our city. We especially like the segments about service companies told from the perspective of the owners of those businesses - we're more apt to call them, rather than just selecting from the Yellow Pages, because we've been made aware of their training, years in business, commitment, and what they intend to achieve for their customers. Thank you!” –Sarah Bailey, Reader

WARMING CENTERS
"I was reading in your calendar last month a "Special Message from the City of Naperville" about warming centers throughout the city. I was so happy to see we offer this. Thanks for making this known."
- Anonymous, Naperville
WELLNESS FOR 60 AND BETTER
"Thank you so much for featuring an article for us old timers on where we can go to get (and stay) healthy in Naperville. Often too much influence it put on working out for the young and vibrant and not those who are senior citizens. I plan on signing up for the Tai Chi class come spring. I just had knee surgery and am still recuperating, but once I'm better- look out world, here I come!" - Margie B., Naperville

LOVED YOUR WHEATON/ GLEN ELLYN MAGAZINE
Congratulations on launching a fabulous new
magazine! As a professional writer, I was encouraged to read your request for reader input regarding "Stylish Residents." When I think of the stylish residents I know, the real knock-outs are the ones who are beautiful on the outside, and the inside. I hope some of those I have are considered for future issues. Anyway, thank you so much for your time, and interest in reader input. Your magazine is truly an asset to the community. Congratulations again. - Gina Kraman
LOOKS GREAT!
I saw the first Wheaton/Glen edition - it looks great! Congratulations and on thanks for bringing such a quality publication to our community . - Kathleen Talenco, Glen Ellyn Park District
I REALLY ENJOYED THE CELEBRITY FEATURE
"What a great feature on Alan Krashesky. I never knew that my favorite news reporter (who I watch everyday, by the way) lives in the same town as me. And, like my husband and I, he has adopted children from China. It's wonderful!"
- Joy F., Naperville
THANK YOU!
"A BIG thanks for doing an issue on technology for old-fashioned people like myself. My kids keep telling me to get with the times and now I have so many resources that I can use to do so...locally. Thanks again."
- Bridgette M., Naperville
ABOUT THAT FURNITURE ON THE JUNE COVER...
"I first want to congratulate you on a great magazine for Naperville. I often am skeptical about publications for Naperville because they are usually just glorified advertising supplements. This is different and I read every issue cover to cover. Thanks. What prompted me to write was the cover photo of the June issue. My wife and I love the furniture but couldn't find any reference to it in the magazine. Can you tell me if it's available locally? And if not, do you know how I can track down a retailer or the manufacturer? Keep up the good work! - Thomas Gavin, Naperville
Editor's Note: Thanks for reading! I'm sorry we don't have any information on the actual furniture that was featured. However, Pottery Barn features a very similar (almost exact) outdoor furniture set - it's called their Chesapeake Sectional. It's on sale too at www.potterbarn.com Enjoy!

HOPING YOU CAN HELP
"Several issues back my wife and I noticed an advertisement in your magazine for a person/company that performs custom painting on walls. We can't seem to find the issue or the company and we would like to have someone give us an estimate on painting some clouds and scenery in our daughter's room. Would you happen to know who the advertiser was or have a recommendation? Any help / guidance would be greatly appreciated." - Bill Budig
Editor's Note: I believe the company you are looking for is Storybook Walls in Naperville. They can be contacted at (630) 416-1506. Happy decorating and thanks for reading!
ENJOYED PORTRAITS
"I enjoyed reading about the three Naperville teens in your new feature PORTRAITS. I am looking forward to reading upcoming features. Will this always be about teens and kids or will you feature others as well? I was just curious." - Melinda S., Naperville
Editor's Note: PORTRAITS will always feature local residents doing great things for our community, but it will not always be kids and teens. In fact in this issue we feature foster moms (page 19), in June we will feature father & son business teams....thanks for reading!
THE REACH IS INCREDIBLE
"Thank you for the nice article you ran about me in this month's issue. The reach of your magazine is incredible! I have heard from friends, neighbors, business associates and my stock broker. My older daughter, who lives in New York City, even called to ask me about the article. A friend of hers, who just moved to Naperville from San Diego, called her to tell her she had just read the story. You should be proud to publish such a beautifully written and designed - and well-read - publication! - Jini Clare, Clare Communications
MORE BOUTIQUES PLEASE!
"Thank you for your feature on boutiques in Naperville in the May Issue. One thing that makes Naperville special is its unique downtown shopping. It is nice to focus on these businesses, but so many were left out. I would like to see more of these businesses featured." - Sarah T . Editor's note: Keep an eye out for our new features this month- one of them is actually the "Boutique of the Month!" Don't forget to send suggestions about which boutique we should feature next month.
I SHARED IT WITH MY HUSBAND
"Thank you for the fabulous issue on Moms and Mother's Day- I "shared" the 7 spectacular mother's day gift guide with my husband! I don't know yet if he took the hint- but either way I had fun reading. I'm glad that you tackled the subjects of adoption and foster parenting in Naperville, since it usually doesn't get much coverage." - Kris Kracer
MORE PEOPLE, PLEASE?
"I always love reading the Naperville Glancer to see who I might recognize, or who I might know that's one of your contest winners. I keep hoping someday it will be me, but so far, no luck. I would love to see more stories about people throughout the community, as their stories are so rarely told in the news." - W. M.
A SMOKE-FREE THANKS!
"I just want to thank you for dedicating space in your March issue of The Naperville Glancer regarding a Smoke-Free Naperville. Thank you for publishing the information and getting the word out on smoke-free dining establishments." - Lynne Jele, www.smokefreenaperville.org
ONLINE SOMETIME SOON?
"I really enjoy the magazine. Thank you for sending it all these years. My question is, will you ever have the magazine online? Often, soon after my husband throws it in the recycling, there is something inside I want to refer back to. If it were online, I could simply visit your website. This would be great!" - Jill Ames, Naperville
