AT HOME STYLE: RACHEL MUCKERHEIDE INVITES US IN
The Muckerheide family has lived in the Sugar Grove area for 10 years. Rachel and Tom have been married for 14 years and have three beautiful children and two sweet dogs. The couple wanted a small town feel with the conveniences of city living for their family and found that Sugar Grove fulfilled their requirements. Hannaford Farm is a total custom home community, right off the beaten path with great proximity to 88 and a short 12-minute drive to the train station. “We loved the nostalgic barn that remains as the entrance focal point, as well as the proximity of the forest preserve right across the street,” Rachel says. “We have been in our current home for almost four years and feel very fortunate as a family to call this house our home.”
They found their completely functional, yet luxurious home for their growing family through Weilert Custom Homes. The home was built in 2006 for a luxury home tour and reflects the vision of John Bieritz, owner of JB Architecture. The Muckerheides love the overall style of the home, but it’s the finer details that provide the ultimate luxury. “It’s the little things, like each door frame being identical, molding on both sides of the doors, double and triple crown in some areas, the four-and-a-half-car garage, the beautiful all-cherry double front doors, as well as a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the great room,” Rachel shares. “Other things also caught our eye, like the built in cabinetry, the coffered ceiling in the office, the media room, the theater, four fireplaces, two gorgeous kitchens, and the master bath, which has all custom-built cabinets, plus a dresser.” The style continues in the main kitchen, which has custom woodworking for holding different service ware, as well as a front display for special kitchen items.
For the Muckerheides, it was not just the detailed elegance, but also the comforts of home that guided their purchase decision. “We love the openness of the kitchen and the great room; it is a great gathering and entertaining place,” Rachel shares. “The formal dining room is large enough to accommodate our large family for those special events and holiday dinners. And during the long winter months, our family enjoys the media room and the theater; it’s a great place for a family night in.”
