Pamela Patton
Carrying On a Longtime Naperville Tradition
Established in 1996 by longtime resident Gail Andrews Bivin, The Canterbury Shoppe is one of Naperville's most visited specialty gift stores. Gail, who passed away this past October, arranged to keep her store alive by selling the business to Pamela Patton.
"I am delighted and humbled to continue the tradition of customer service to the Naperville community that Gail has been known for for the last 13 years," says Pamela.
Pamela comes from a variety of backgrounds as she has degrees in photography & communications as well as her real estate license, and past experience in interior design as a former Walter E. Smithe top designer. She and her husband John have two daughters - Cassie and Maren. Although not a Naperville resident, Pamela knows the city well as she has been a frequent downtown shopper since 1968.
As The Canterbury Shoppe's new owner, Pamela is working to carry on the tradition of the store by searching for unique gift items residents will love. Just recently, Pamela was returning home from an Ireland trip via Paris and came across beautiful tapestry purses which are now available in the store. Also new, are customized canvas enlargements from digital photos and watercolor renditions of local Naperville architecture by photographer/artist Richard Taylor.
Additional favorites carried here include Julia Knight and Mariposa serving pieces, Peggy Karr hand-painted glass dishes, Christopher Radko and Mattarusky Christmas ornaments and Byer's Choice Caroler figurines. Pamela is also planning for 2010 by bringing in various lines of dinnerware to start a bridal registry. The Canterbury Shoppe will be hosting their official Grand Re-Opening/Pre-St. Patrick's Day Celebration on March 11. The Canterbury Shoppe, 175 W. Jackson Avenue.
