Exhibit Opening, “Participation Required”
Naperville Cultural Center to Exhibit Recent Artwork by Zachary Johnson Naperville, IL (March 23, 2010) On Friday, April 2, 2010 from 6 to 9 PM, the Naperville Cultural Center will kick off “Participation Required”, an exhibit of recent artwork by local artist Zachary Johnson. A senior art history major at Columbia College, Johnson will exhibit photographs and performance art unified by the idea of participation. The aim of the work, he says, is to engage and involve the audience. “The Naperville Cultural Center,” says Michelle LeBlanc, “strives to unify people through art education and by allowing artists to use the space to express various perspectives on humanity. This particular exhibit is going to be really fun since the artist is inviting people to participate in the work itself.” Since its inception, the Naperville Cultural Center has been exhibiting artists’ works as well as providing art, language and cultural classes and workshops. Several professional artists’ have contributed to the murals through the years and student work is frequently prominently displayed. Johnson says he enjoys the positive, open atmosphere of the Naperville Cultural Center, and thinks that it’s the perfect place to display work that aims to be both meaningful and entertaining. “I think a lot of people are turned off to contemporary art because they view it as too esoteric”, he remarked, “I hope that in my work, people can see art as something exciting. I want the opening to feel more like an art party.” Johnson’s photographs will be on display though Friday, April 30th. Performance art pieces will be featured exclusively at the opening reception. The Naperville Cultural Center is located at 55 South Main Street in Suite 211 in downtown Naperville. RSVP for the opening is appreciated.
