Well Read
This week (July 28th) Naperville is holding a very special book signing event. On Wednesday Jini Leeds Clare will be presenting her book Century Walk: Art Imitating History at the Wentz Concert Hall.
The book tells you everything you could ever want to know about all the art work around Naperville, including interviews with the artists, many of whom will be at the event. It seems very appropriate to have a beautiful picture book about the city’s dazzling art works, and it got me to thinking about some other books we could publish about Naperville.
A Tale of Two Cities: An exciting tale of Naperville’s revenge after being beaten in the rankings as best place to live by Bolingbrook.
Shopaholic: In which Becky Bloomwood dies, goes to Heaven and finds herself in downtown Naperville.
The Accidental Tourist: A visitor finds themselves in Naperville after taking the wrong train at Union Station.
The Agony and The Ecstasy: Free popcorn samples offered to Weight Watchers outside Haagen Dazs on Jefferson.
And Then There Were None: See previous.
The Magnificent Ambersons: How a typing error created a Naperville dynasty.
Paradise Lost: Oil spills out of a BP garage into the DuPage River.
The Old Curiosity Shop: Detailing how the Canterbury Shoppes moved across town.
The 39 Steps: In which the Moser Tower is cut down to size.
The Hungry Caterpillar: Sci Fi drama in which a monster runs amok in Whole Foods.
The Portrait of An Artist as a Young Man: The latest addition to the Century Art Walk
___________________________________________________________ About Hilary: British journalist Hilary Decent moved to Naperville from London two and half years ago. Since then she has been working hard to re-establish her career on this side of the pond. In England she was a local newspaper reporter and freelance humor columnist for national magazines. She spent five years teaching international students English study skills at a British university. She now writes for several local publications. A self professed drama queen, Hilary loves the theatre and hopes to write more musical comedies following the success of her first one, Holy Neuteronomy! earlier this year. Hilary is complely bewitched by Naperville, and enjoys observing American suburban life from a wry British point of view. Visit her at www.hilarydecent.com. |
