The Glen Ellyn mother of three is a pediatrician who serves as the assistant medical director of the pediatric emergency department at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She had told friends at Children's Memorial Hospital that she would be willing to go to Haiti to help with emergency medical care for victims of the earthquake. This is her story of motherhood and heartfelt generosity combined with human compassion.

Having moved to Naperville from Ottawa, IL with his family when he was just 13-years-old, Mike Bakos has planted his roots here. "Naperville is where I met my beautiful fiancé, where I work, where I reside and where I overall just enjoy life," says Mike.   For the past 11 years, Mike has been working at Fontano's, a local family-owned restaurant/deli that opened its doors in 1999. Originally opened as a small sub shop, Fontano's Naperville has since transformed into a full-service Italian restaurant, offering a classic homemade Italian menu.

Suited and booted at 7.20 a.m. I arrived at Naperville's newest boutique hotel, the Arista. It was back in January, and I was there to attend the Silent Samaritan's Interfaith Breakfast. I found somewhere to park in the dim early morning light, and went to pull the key out of the ignition. It was stuck fast. Like any mechanically minded woman, I jiggled the key in the lock, broke out in a cold sweat and burst into tears.  Luckily I had my phone. TERRIFIC TEACHER: Mike Kennedy of Neuqua Valley High School
Neuqua Valley High School teacher Mike Kennedy had lunch with one of his former students last summer who "is pursuing a PhD in biophysics and doing a really interesting project. He basically is trying to build a hard drive for the brain," says the proud teacher.  Kennedy teaches Honors and Advanced Placement Physics and frequently hears from the students who thank him for getting them started on the path to their advanced education. "I even heard from one student who wished he had worked harder in my class," he says.
