North Central College-150 Year History

North Central College invites the public to the free premiere of the fourth part of a documentary series produced with Naperville Community Television that chronicles the College’s 150-year history. Complimentary refreshments will be served. The production is led by Naperville Community Television’s Emmy Award-winning Executive Director Elizabeth Braham Spencer, who also is adjunct professor of broadcast communication at the College. “A Student-Centered Community” spans the period 1975 to 1990, during the administration of Gael D. Swing, the eighth of North Central’s nine presidents. Author and Vietnam War Veteran Shares His Story • February 1, 7-8 p.m.
Vietnam veteran Thomas Pozdol tells the intimate story of his infantry company and their battle near Tam Ky. Pozdol was a member of C Company, the Charlie Tigers. On May 13, 1969, the soldiers became embroiled in a fierce two-day battle to take Nui Yon Hill that claimed the lives of twelve Charlie Tigers. Pozdol will be at the Glen Ellyn Public Library to discuss his experiences amidst the harrowing bloodshed of the Vietnam War. At 12:30pm, the Glen Ellyn Wheaton Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago will gather at the Abbington Banquets located at 3S002 Route 53 in Glen Ellyn for a Dessert and Coffee afternoon. The featured speaker for the program is Carissa Kowalski Dougherty, writer, design historian, and Art Institute lecturer. Her topic is "Cutting-Edge Jewelry Design."
This lecture examines trends in contemporary jewelry design, highlighting the sophisticated, the sustainable, and the surprising aspects of this artistic category. New technologies and new materials have changed the way jewelry designers create, drawing them more closely to their counterparts in architecture, conceptual art and industrial design. Guests are welcome to attend the afternoon of art information and entertainment.
